If it's a power steering pump low on fluid, it will buzz real loud and worse when you turn the steering wheel left or right.

Fill with power steering fluid. Look in owners manual for type of fluid.

when fluid is added, turn stering wheel full left and full right to purge trapped air.

If this does not fix, you may have a bad pump.

Please rate as fixya if ths solves your issue.

Rpeort back on rsults and good luck.

Check engine light came on could a bad power steering pump cause it

if you have a bad power steering pump you would know it. when you turn the steering wheel you would hear the pump making a loud sound that you can pin point by having someone stand in front of the car (with the hood open) listen for this abnormal sound.

My power steering stopped working in my 1999 cavilier . It makes noise when i attempt turning and the belt is still in good condition and turning. How can i be sure it is the power steering pump i need to...

Take a look at the reservoir. What color is the fluid?
The fluid may need to be filled or flushed. Everyone allways seems to forget the P/S fluid, Brake fluid, and trani fluid. Oh well, So anyways if the fluid Isn't clean or low that could be the problem. If it is fine but you hear a loud whining noise and/or the fluid is foaming you may have a leak in the suction line or a defective pump.

My 1999 Dodge Caravan is making a high winding pitch noise when aclerating? Belts in good shape, what is the noise, it's really loud.

This sounds like a power steering issue. Check the fluid and if it is full then the pump may be going out. The way to check if the problem is the power steering is to turn the wheel while the engine is running. If the pitch changes then it is a power steering issue. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Loud screeching under hood passenger side

How about checking the fan belts, they may need adjusting or replacing.

My 1999 dodge Intrepid makes a loud whining noise (like a power steering pump) any time it is running... Any ideas on what it could be?

if the winning noise gets louder when you turn the steering wheel, it is the power steering pump.
99 to 04 intrepids have a serpintine belt with a self tightner.what i did with mine is **** the old power steering fluid out with a shop vac.replaced half with new fluid and top up with a transmission/power steering fluid additive.the noise went away after a couple of days.

Power steering fluid leak (1999 grand am gt)

sounds like a high pressure hose or rack and pinion would have to get underneath and take a good look at it while someone starts it and turns the whell all the way to tyhe left or right and hold it there till you see the leak

How to determine weather it is the power steering pump, or hose?

power steering will make a buzz nosie and it will get worse when the steering wheel is turned. It usually is just low n power steering fluid. Check that first. The other is a belt squeal noise, worse when turning, which usually just requires tightening unless it's self tensioning syste. Or replace the belt. Need a better description of the nosie and results of fluid level check. Report back on findings.
