Is it bad for u to disconnect the battery when the service engine light is on? does that reset the codes or do they still stay on?

Still stay....go to a auto parts store and have the codes read. It is free of charge and then you will know WHY the check engine light is on.

Disconnect the battery and you will LOSE ALL codes, not reset them.

disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery for 1 hour, then reconnect it. this will clear the code from the computer. if the problem has been fixed then the light will stay off. but if the light returns there is still an issue.

How do you turn the service engine soon light off

Disconnect either of the battery posts from the battery for at least 15 minutes...reconnect...this will re-set the system, As this does not stay off, you will need a service engine code checked...performed free at most auto parts stores...Hope the reset stays clear:)

may have other problem, sensor going bad.or reset onboard computer by disconnection of positive cable on battery for 5mins this will reset @ make light go off but if problem exists light WILLcome back on.. hope this helps!!!!

2001venture van service engine soon light stays on

most any sensor going bad can cause the check engine light to come on,try disconnecting the posative battery cable for 15 seconds ,then put it back on,will reset the codes, or take it to auto zone,they will test your computer for codes at no charge to you.i had a venture van my was ox. sensor. thanks robert b.

The check engine light is on.

Sometimes disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will reset the check engine light. Make sure you have the correct radio code before doing this or your radio will not work after disconnecting the battery.

SERVICE LIGHT FLASHING!

when the battery in those is going it will send a low amount of voltage to the sensors triggering many trouble codes.disconnect the negative side for five minutes and reconnect.this should reset the computer ad erase any trouble codes.
