I have a 2001 dodge dakota with engine light on. Code P1762 says ECM detected the off set voltage was out of spec for more than 3 seconds. That is an explanation of Gov. pressure sensor voltage too high or low. Also says probable cause int. tranny failure or open short circuited condition. What does this mean?

There is an issue where the oxygen sensor that is after the catalytic converter can short out internally in the heater circuit and cause a voltage to feed back into the transmission. This in turn can cause the error that you are describing. The best this and cheapest thing to do is replace the sensor and see if the code comes back. If it does then you are looking at a possible transmission issue.

SOURCE: My check engine light came on on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee, we took it to auto zone to have it check with their computer and came out with the following explanationbb6 overnor pressure sensor offset

Don't flush the transmission. Remove the transmission oil pan and replace the governor pressure solenoid and switch. Reinstall the pan and add fluid. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect to clear any codes and road test.

Trouble code p1762

Code p1762 is the governor pressure offset volts too high or too low. This is a transmission solenoid that probably needs replaced. I believe that you have to take the pan off to get at it.
