Need manual for 1986 nissan pickup 4cyl positive

If you are saying the engine will not crank, you would need to check the circuit between the key switch and the starter.
There is a neutral safety switch in that circuit that could have failed.

I would start by checking the connections at the battery and make sure they are clean and tight. If the connections are tight and clean, replace the starter.
On some models with automatic transmission, it may be necessary to disconnect the throttle rod.

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable at the battery, then disconnect the positive (+) battery cable at the starter.
2. Disconnect the remaining electrical connections at the starter solenoid.

You may have the positive cable hooked in the wrong side of the starting selenoid or the starter selenoid is defective.

Follow the RED (+) cable from the battery, it goes to the starter selenoid wich has two terminals, change the cable to the other terminal, that should take care of the problem unless the selenoid is stuck on. Replacement runs about $15.

That shouldn't be necessary. - Disconnect the negative battery terminal first (always), then the positive. - Follow the positive lead to either the solenoid or the starter with solenoid; if the solenoid is not mounted on th starter, follow the cable leaving the solenoid to find the starter. - The starter should have sufficient clearance and is mounted at the junction of the transmission's bell housing and the engine block. - Disconnect the incoming cable from battery or solenoid.
They normally have only 2 or 3 bolts to remove and will then pull right out.
I recommend to anyone that they should have an aftermarket service manual if they intend to do any work on their vehicles and I like Haynes over Chilton. They recently dropped their prices $5 US to $20 and this is a real bargain if you get stuck:

You might check your local library, they may have a donated copy to loan or eBay where you might also save a few dollars.

You probably already checked, but 1st thing to do is make sure the battery is good, fully charged, and cables are clean at connections, and tight. If so, Pull the starter out and bring it to a parts store where they will test it for free and let you know if it is shot. You can also remove it, attach jumper cables to it (neg. to metal body of starter, pos. to connection where battery cable was). Stand back as when you touch the pos. cable it will (if working properly) advance the gear on the shaft in the starter and then spin (to crank the engine over if it was mounted in place). This is a rather violent and very quick event, so stand back and be careful.
