I fitted an alternator off a land rover, this charges at 14v,but 110 amps, twice what the normal jag alternator delivers,I have had no problems starting since.I also removed the cold stat,as I live in Western Australia, and she was flooding with cold start connected.
I have an 8 seater(inc driver) stertch 6 door Jag xj6 1984 series 3

Hi Clyde

Expect you have it running by now, as I see this was posted 2 March ?

If not......

Charge up your battery, and heavy discharge test, suspect you have short in the plates.

If OK, jump start with a set of proper heavy duty jump leads.

Good Luck !

A FixYa would be nice...Thank´s......John.

1992 toyota pickup won't start and battery won't charge

Sounds like your battery is just too dead, has enough juice to light up the system for a minute but cranking drains it and if it wont charge then deff fried, you could try removing the battery and starting the car with cables to confirm the starter still works. If a bettery is too dead then when you are jumping it, it takes to much of the power just trying to get through the battery.

1996 jag xjs , the battery is dead , I need to jump start it but the trunk won't open ,battery in the trunk , can it be jumped from under the hood ? and why won't the trunk open even with a key ?

The trunk latch is operated by a solenoid which it requires power to operate. since the batery is flat then it won't work. I'm not sure where the positive terminal is under the hood but you can connect the positive lead to the alternator wire terminal, and the negative lead can be connected any where on the engine.
Good luck......

I have a 1995 jaguar when the battery went dead the radio went out and when i push the power button it don't comes on.what can i do to get the radio back on.

1994 you turn the knob not push it as pushing it will just make it jump a track on the cd .this is the original jag radio and not a aftermarket one

Battery went dead, charged battery and still wont turn over

i had a 95 xj 6 with the same problem. At the fire wall on the right side is a bolt with a rubber cover on it. this cable goes behind the engine to the starter. That bolt at the fire wall my need to be replaced. find it it may be rusted or corroded. If it is, the current from the battery will stop at that bolt and not contunue on to the starter but lights and everything else will work. If when you turn the key you just hear a click or nothing. that part is 5 dollars at autozone.

1984 jaguar xj6 left lights on for a couple hours, car won't start but lights and radio come on

you need to make sure you have full battery voltage, turning the engine takes more power than a radio or lights, you can try having someone jump your battery to see if that helps,if it starts give it a good run without alot of lights and stuff on to recharge battery

How do I get into my trunk to jump my Jag without no power? my batteries are in the trunk & I cant get into the trunk cause my switch on the trunk will not budge & I have no power...can I jump it...

You can jump from the battery cable on the starter if you can get to it.Just be very careful not to let the cable touch bare metal and arc.
