2006 PONTIAC G6-TRANSMISSION JERKING

I have a pontiac g6 2006, the 4 cylinder. When i shift the vehicle from park to drive, it makes a big almost a "clunking" sound. Then it does a smaller version of that into second gear. It is automatic transmission. After 2nd gear or so it stops. This also happens with a random "service engine soon" light appearing. I was wondering if anyone knew if this would be some sort of sensor or if the transmission may actually be slipping in those gears.

My transmission does the exact same thing. I had the transmission serviced and it did not fix the problem!

I have the same problem with my G6. It first happened last year and the dealership followed a technical service bulletin, and it fixed it for a while. The problem came back about 3 weeks ago, and the dealership replaced the ECM and a body valve. Needless to say it is still not fixed, I have had a working car 3 days out of the last 3 weeks, and the dealership does not know what else to do. The dealership contacted GM to get their opinion, and I am waiting for their response.

My 2006 G6 just hit 80,000 miles. my check engine light keeps coming on. There are also times i drive and it doesn't light up. The RPMs on my car randomly jump up to 5 RPM's when i am crusing down the interstate. I am getting it looked at this week. I am curious to see what is wrong with it NOW. The power steering went out at 40,000 miles. Power window quit working last summer and my heater quit working this winter.

    transmission jerking

  • Montrio1 Apr 21, 2009

Just today my transmission started slipping and jerking in both 1st and 2nd gear. I called the dealership. My 06 was only covered for 3 years or 36,000 and I have 55,000 on mine. So, as they say, I am SOL.

In the two years that I have had this car, it has been in an accident and had shoddy repair work done (through the dealership of purchase), I have had a wheel cover fall off while driving, my Keyless remote stopped working for no reason and even after repair, does not work accurately about 80% of the time.

I have paneling on the inside of my car that came off as a result of repair. I can't get it back on. And now THIS!! I FRIGGIN' HATE THIS CAR and can't wait to get out of it. Problem is, just like everyone else, I am too upside down for a trade in right now. Any suggestions?

It is the wonderful torque converter clutch solenoid. Mine went out last night. It will still go in reverse but now will not even go in to a driving gear. It all started out with all the same symtoms you are describing. So let them know the torque converter is getting stuck in the open position and you need it fixed asap.

i have the exact same thing happening to my car. I have had two opinions and both advised I was needed a part inside my transmission replaced. They advised fixing it would stop the hard shifting and also remove the check engine light. Neither happened. Car is still shifting hard. FYI lots of other problems too. Power steering went out in 2008. Power window switches have stopped working twice. CD player stopped working all of a sudden. Tie rods had to be replaced at 30K miles and the AC/Heat only works when it wants to.

I have had the same issue. Mine did it at around 75000 miles and I took it to the dealership and the fixed the problem, now 75,000 miles later at 150,000 it is doing it again. Not to mention all the other stuff that has gone wrong with it and cost way to much. And it wasn\'t like it was a cheap car. It was 15,995.00 before the interest. I bought this car for my daughter when she graduated and she does all the maintenance so that cant be the reason. I think Pontiac needs to buy all these cars back before someone gets killed. Not that they care.

Hi I also had the same problem. Its actually not a transmission problem. I\'m a mechanic and took me a while too figure out. The problem is the cam auctator( I probley spelled wrong) when bad it will actually raise transmission line pressure very high and that\'s the jerking sensation you feel. Also it will give a hard shift from gear to gear. There are 2 auctators an exaust and intake. Mine was the exhaust that was bad. They are under the plastic cover. On valve cover passenger side of engine. I fix this problem alot for people. The part cannot be found at autozone.advanced. or o rielys. Its a dealer item only. And do change your oil. Use the 5w-30 only . These work as cam faizers and are oil controlled. They go bad when oil isn\'t changed. And higher weight oil is used. I know its sounds unreal. Yet it is true. Hope this helped. And if a transmission shop charged u 400 dude they got over on u big time!

Hi Kevinmn I also have same problem with my g6 , hope this works. Do you work in the Dallas area

  • Anonymous Sep 22, 2012

Hi Kevin. I was wondering if you could help me out. My friend has a Pontiac G6 GTPm automatic/5 speed slap shift. He was driving it last Saturday and stopped at a red light. When the light turned green the car wouldn't go. It goes in reverse and we figured out that it will drive in manual. What could be the problem? It sounds similar to your problem.

Did changing the speed sensor fix the problem? I would greatly appreaciate your feedback. My Pontiac 06 has the same problem and I want to fix.

OKAY, I had the same problem. When driving you could feel the jerking sound and it's very annoying. I know and understand and I got mine fix about a 5 month ago. Here is the answer: Power Control Module: Once you take the pcm relay out it might come back to normal for 5 minutes then back to regular. The g6 is a computerized car. Buy A PCM and your problem will be fix. I promise it will be fix. It's not the pressure relay. I spent 1,500$ and all I had to do is buy a new Power Control Module because this computer controls the transmission: Here is the Link: http://amzn.to/1KqiPX7 ACDelco 12612384 GM Original Equipment Engine Control Module

Transmission shifts hard when I shift to drive is it the gear shift linkage

2009 Pontiac g6 gt (4 engines not told)

GM transmission, guess 4T65-E
check all fuses, so the TCM can work.
scan the PCM see tranny errors, DTC coded errors.
bad parts need to be replaced so buy them and do that
ask GM first. then used parts ,
at
car-part.com (wreckers)

no blind person can inspect your shift linkes
find a shop to do that. real hands on persons./
the service manual even cover this
called checking shift linkage for proper shift rod lever on the box for proper detent engagement.
so low fails and reverse fails
or only DRIVE fails. PRNDL
if you move NDL and see if you can feel the detent for drive this may work or for sure proves the point.
get the car serviced. tell them your woe.

Was there a recall on 2008 pontiac g6 for transmission problems

Yes there was. Here is the exact recall and claim number. Also is a phone number you can call for further assistance.

2008 Pontiac G6 Power Train Recall 12V460000 NHTSA: Action Number: N/A Service Bulletin Number: 12V460000
  • Report Date:
    Sep 18, 2012
  • Component:
    Power Train
  • Potential Units Affected:
    426240
  • Manufacturer:
    General Motors Llc

Summary: General motors (gm) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 saturn aura and model year 2008-2010 chevrolet malibu and pontiac g6 vehicles, equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. On these vehicles, the tabs on the transmission shift cable end may fracture and separate.

Consequence: If the tabs were to fracture and separate, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to 'park' and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in 'park. ' the vehicle may not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, resulting in a possible crash without prior warning.

Remedy: Gm will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer over the cable end or replace the shift cable as necessary. This service will be performed free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on, or about, november 12, 2012. Owners may contact general motors at 1-800-521-7300.

Notes: General motors safety recall number 12106. Customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153);
