I hope someone can give me some advice I would really appreciate it. I
have a 2001 Nissan Maxima GLE I just recently purchased used with less
than 30,000 miles on it. I really love it except recently I have had a
few problems. First one is massive smoke that was coming out from the
exhaust pipes when I start up usually when cold, but I think that was
because I was wasn't using premium gas. The last fill up I bought the
premium gas and didn't notice such extensive smoke.
Second, I notice a rattling sound when I am stopped then accelerate on
the gas ever so slightly. After I go over about 20 mph the rattling
sound ceases. Then today my service engine soon light came on, on the
way home. What could this be?
Third, my 6 disc cd changer skips erractically. Does it need to be
cleaned or something? Bought a brand new cd put it in there and plays
ok the first couple of minutes then all of a sudden starts skipping
like crazy on me. ????? Please help, thanks.

the rattling sounds like its the hydrolic lifters (tappets or cam followers called also) not really a hard job just a pain cause you've to strip the engine to pieces to do. Its very time consuming so unless you've some experience i'd place this in the hands of an experienced mechanic. This should also stop the smoke problem.
The engine service light is on a timer from service to service so thats nothing to do with it.
The cd player your right about it just need the lazer llens cleaned. You can buy a cd cleaner kit for cheap in any music/record store.
