Driving on the freeway at 65 to 70Mph,The Tach. and speedometer start jumping up and down, then they drop to zero, and all the dash warning lights come on, but very dim,and then all electric windows, radio, mirrors, stop working, and then all power goes out. I stop the car, turn the key off and wait 5-10 Min. start it up and everything is back to normal. this happens every couple of weeks.

My car is back at the factory getting "worked on"...sudden loss of Power and control while driving on the freeway...has anyone else experienced this? ... My son was driving his '04 Volvo on the highway, when all of the sudden the car started slowing down, despite how much he ... Last I heard they were 60.
The speed sensor might be bad. I used to own a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the same symptons. The car will start, but will not pass the 1st or 2nd gear, the speedometer will be at 0. I replaced the speed sensor and all the problems went away.
I have had the almost same problem twice. A 'thump', like the engine missed a fire and tach drops. Seems OK after restart. Electrical? Timing chain slip? Has 135,000 mile. Any clues?
This is a very common problem on 1998 dodge caravan, voyager, t and County. You have a cracked circuit board in your instrument cluster. It is a dealer item. You can remove your cluster and install the circuit board yourself to save money but after the install you will have to take the vehicle back to the dealer to have it calibrated before the tach and the speedometer will work.
Removed CD player for jammed CD. Reinstalled but car ignition and most electrical sytems won't operate although fuses appear OK. Don't know if it is related to the anti-theft system. When ignition is turned on, both tach and speedometer needles peg out and return to zero but no type of ignition
sounds like you have shorting to ground, check the ignition switch , or melted wires, bad connections, something is causing a short when ignition is forward, could be a radio or any other electrical hook up ,tests with a volt meter will need to be done to check for continuity when there should not be and other
test will need to be done to start to eliminate possible causes
