L Reg Jaguar 3.2 sport automatic gear lever wont come out of park

try the brake pedal switch first common prob. you should be able to hear a click from the gear lever when the brake pedal is applied to disengage the park lock solenoid if not its more than likeley the pedal switch or second choice the release solenoid on the jgate/gear lever

The leaver in the 4 litre is fully electronic, it's just a fancy switch. In the 3 litre it's somewhat mechanical. Ether way it sounds like an electrical problem with sensing the leaver position.

Your car should have an E-brake engage/release lever. Please inspect the push button on the end of the lever. Does the button depress and release correctly? My guess is that the lever needs to be repaired or replaced. Maybe the internal spring has broke and the button wont release. If the button doesn't release, the ratchet wont engage. with the ignition on press the brake can you her aclick from the gear lever area i suspect not the lever is more than likely stuck in park the soleniod that releases the gear lever
is not being powered the most likely cause is the brake light switch on the brake pedal you can get it out of park by removing the little plug near the gear lever and pushing something like your key in to the hole to manually release the gear lever there is also a relay under the j gate that may be faulty/dislodged or the release soleniod itself faulty

Some automatic vehicles rely on the brake switch (mounted on brake pedal) to be activated by depressing brake pedal. This signal then operates a relay and switch, to release the gear lever.

Firstly, I would check the brake pedal switch (are your brake lights working?).

If brake switch is confirmed OK, then inspect the relay (and related circuit components) of the gear release switch.

there should be a release hole by the shifter stick a pin in it and press the button to release the shifter. if not press brake down and try to shift

Disconnect cable at gear box end & try to move. If lever moves fault at g.b if still stuck strip lever & check cable etc

check the fuses especially the one(s) for the brake lights. have someone stand in back of car and see if brake lights even work.when you step on brake pedal,you should be able to hear a "click" that is the shift release solenoid letting the shifter come out of park. u might also have a bad brake lite switch or broken/burnt wiring coming off the brake light switch.

Most likely the lock out switch at the brake pedal is at fault, because in order to put it in in to any gear you have to step on the brake first ! Their is a switch located which prevents you put it in gear with out stepping on the brake pedal, so check this switch first.

who towed it was there a towing sequence eg take a fuse out ect like some other cars
