What type transmission fluid? Synthetic Max ATF by Royal Purple?

ATF+4

Use a bottle of yellow HEET dry gas to remove any moisture problem in the fuel.

Clean / replace air filter.

Top off ATF to MAX level.

Use starting fluid to aid starting.

My local transmission specialst tells me that ALL GM van transmissions run hot. Especially within the Safari/Astro design - that doesn't reflect the wind very well (compared to today's smaller mini-vans). He recommends ATF aux cooler (LPD Design) be installed in all Safari / Astro vans - even non-towing vans. For example, Hayden 678 or 679 LPD design.

As a suggestion, install the LPD aux cooler design (re: Tru-cool or Hayden 678 or 679) in your "running hot" GM van. These ATF coolers work great in my GM vans...

For an automatic transmission, use Mobil Multi Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid (or equivalent ATF with the same specs).

Mobil Multi Vehicle ATF is premium synthetic blend lubricant formulated...

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF may also be used.

If you are talking about an Automatic Transmission, you pull out the Transmission dip stick and add the transmission fluid though that hole. The capacity for the 1990 Camry is 2.6 Quarts. THEN you have the differential section of the transmissioin. That takes 1.7 Quarts. The differential section has a plug at the bottom of the transmission to drain it and another plug on the side of the transaxle case to fill it. You fill it until it overflows out of the side hole. That is 1.7 Quarts. Both parts of the transmission take Dexron II transmission fluid. It is not the same as Dexron IV and is not backwards compatible. I use Royal Purple Max ATF for both parts of this transmission.

a bolt on the bottom of the transmission pan like a 14 mm i think but righty tighty lefty loosy...lol bolt out fluid will drain... make sure its not black because then you took the oil pan plug out. but you should see red fluid poor out Transmission Fluid Type

Yes, it would be OK to mix it.

You can use the same ATF as the transmission or a synthetic ATF for GM Transmission. Most guys will use normal ATF and mix Lucas ATF transmission additive to it, to make the fluid last longer.
