Subaru legacy 97 shut off while driving and now wont turn on again

The car shut off while I was driving down the road and now wont turn on again. It is stuck in park, It has brand new spark plugs and wires, the battery has juice in it and that must mean the alternator is fine. I checked the coil also and it did have a spark. The fuel guage was fine when checked and they also said the maf sensor was fine at the shop it did jiggle loose though they said and they unplugged it and put it back on and they said it ran fine there. before all this my car would barely speed up unless i gradually stepped on the gas and it didnt make it up hills. I have no clue what to do , Im a girl in a small town and there is no bus's here. please help !

The cylinders are numbered as on the spark pack you changed. You might have done better putting the seafoam in the tank as an injector cleaner. Not sure why you changed so many parts, you seem to know how to get the codes from test connector lead hookup and the blink pattern. You might also want to check the fuel rail pressure and the crank and cam angle sensors. Before replacing the injector, swap the #4 injector with the adjacent one and see it the code moves with the injector or stays put. If the code stays on #4, then check the injector wiring, if it moves clean or replace the injector.

Try changing the ignition coil.
The easy way to test this, is turn the ignition on,for about thirty second's ,then feel the coil ,if it is hot ,replace it.

IF the crankshaft turned ANY after the belt broke, you have bent the valves. The valves only have room to extend when the piston is down in the cylinderhead. IF the piston comes up, and the valve is down still, due to a broken belt that cannot turn the cam to let it back up.... BAM!

How did you test the Coil? with a test light see if the positive side of the low tension side of the coil is hot (12 volts with the key on) The other sde should be hot too till you crank it and the negitive side should flash the test light. if it doesn't remove the negitve wire from the coil and connect it to the test light and the other side of the test light to the positve with the coil unhooked the light should blink when cranking. if it does the coil is shorted and you need a new one. if it doesn't then the module is bad and on this car there is a ingtion power transsister. The distrubutor pickup is not out of the question either as the pickup makes the transsiter work. with the test light stil hooked up that did'nt flash but has 12 volts on the one wire, unplug the distrubuter ad use the test light to see if any of the wires come hot with the key on. If not your looking for an ingtion switch or fuse problem. he coil gets it's positve power from the same place so your looking for a broken wire if the coil is hot. You should be finding your problem following this way and the transsistor also has a wire thats hot with the key on with all the other wires connected on the coil and the dist. A rebuilt distbutor is cheaper than rebuilding your distbuter and and parts sore is going to have the distrubuter. the module is in the distbutor as is the pickup.

Subaru legacy 97 wont start

Try getting a boost to roll up the windows. If the battery volatage is too low little to nothing will work and the car can shut off while driving. This is usually from the alternator having problems and not providing the power necessary to keep the car running. If power to the battery does not help the issue then you can remove the trim around the base of the gear selector to gain access to the shift lock bypass. Its a hidden button that will allow the selector to move without power to the transmission to make towing the car possible.

1997 subaru legacy with awd transmission - driveshaft has been removed due to bad u-joints and trans. locked up the front wheels. What do we need to unlock them?

I have a 93 legacy. Subaru's always run in front wheel drive until a sensor tells the computer the front wheels are not turning the same speed as the rear wheels( spining on ice or sand etc.). At that point all wheels will be driven though a clutch to the rear wheels. This is not good if the car needs to be towed with the front wheels in the air! This "all wheel drive" can be shut down for towing. Under the hood on my 93, there is an in line fuse holder on the pass. side of car behind the front strut mount. Open the top of the holder and it will be empty, put in a fuse (10 or 20 amp or close) , this completes a circuit and shuts down the rear wheels. I don't know if the your 97 has this in the same place, but it must have one some place. hope this can help you.
