When it reaches the speed,in 2nd, that it should shift, it goes out uf gear and the engine revs as if in neutral. At this point I let up on the accelerator and after engine speed goes close to idle, it shifts hard to 3rd. Similarly, when you press down on the accelerator hard, to go into passing gear (2nd), it shifts momentarily out of gear unrestrained and shifts hard into 2nd,

Hi there,
As your Auto transmission is fully electronic, it could be anything from faulty sensors sending incorrect signals to the trans computer, or faulty internal components. Your best bet is to have the trans computer scanned for 'fault codes' (as the computer monitors and retains all faults) by your local Ford dealership.
This process will identify the likely component/s which are causing this problem.
My guess is, there may be a problem with the 2nd clutch (yes that's right, automatics have internal clutches!), input and/or output shaft switches sending incorrect signals to the computer.
But, there could be so many other possibilities....so, I recommend you get the codes scanned and go from there.....
