Change the gearbox oil and the auto transmission fluid it may be old and dirty so it slows down shifting.

SOURCE: Code: P0340 Cam shaft position

Causes

A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed, yes the crank sensor can set this code as well
Possible Solutions

With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:

  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
  • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

350z 2004 a/t with 120k miles 3 days ago my car overheated but reached just half of the temp gauge and i stopped the car and by the time it went back to normal i turned off the engine to cool down....

I don't think overheating of the engine has much to do with the transmission, either automatic or manual. If you have an automatic transmission, did you check the fluid? Sometimes low fluid stops certain gears from changing, as the torque converter doesn't have enough fluid to pressurize the servos to engage the clutches.

Why does my car shifts hard in the lower gears?

If the fluid is clean and full, you probably have a more serious internal problem. This particular car has a known problem with transmission failures. Read the info at the following link.

What is the function of the button near the auto transmission gear with writing c and s

It stands for "Sport" and Comfort", it changes the way the transmission shifts. Read a more detailed description below.

In C, the transmission starts from a stop in 2nd gear unless the kick down switch is activated (pedal to floor from standing start). The transmission will shift at lower RPM's. This is used for everyday driving. The S mode will cause the transmission to start in 1st gear regardless of pedal position and shift at higher rpm. This button has NO effect on suspension, Mercedes have separate suspension control switches.
