My trunk warning light goes out only when I apply the brakes

It sounds to me all you need is to adjust the trunk hatch. Its going out when you hit the brakes so the switch isn't bad. It may be worn but if you can push on it and the light goes out it is the reason your alarm is going off. Make sure there isn't debris under the rubber seal preventing it from fully closing.

Hi, The 2007 Hyundai Accent is under a recall for the brake light switch since it has a tendency to fail. The brake light switch is high up on the brake pedal and it has a plunger on it. The plunger releases when you step on the brake pedal and retracts when you release the pedal. check for bad brakelight switch on the brake pedal under the dash,but on the brake pedal rod,will be a switch that has a pluger that pops out when you apply the brakes,check to see if it's plugged in. other than that,just replace the entire switch,yhey do go bad often enough.

You should have a switch in the trunk area or on the trunk latch it makes contact to ground to turn on the light in trunk if you disconnect the switch should take care of it temporarily.

Drivers side kick panel(down by the hood latch) where your left foot is. There is also one under the hood by the drivers side strut tower. If nobody lost it there should even be a fuse puller in there. On the back of the fuse cover is a diagram that tells you which fuse is which.

Remove 2 screws (phillips head).

I would have to agree it's an electrical problem. It might simply be a defective trunk lid latch switch. Here's the wiring diagram:

a bad alternator will cause both brake and battery warning lamps to come on. check the charging system.

Well I took it to a trusted mechanic and unfortunately for me it was not the switch in the trunk. The switch for the accent trunk light is built into the trunk latch which would be easy to fix, but I knew that because of the light going off when you press the brake it had to be a short somewhere, which it did turn out to be. Too bad we couldn't actually find the short, it is probably something rubbing on a gound somewhere. I actually just took the bulb out of the dash behind the trunk open indicator so it wouldn't drain my battery.
