I installed a new ignition switch in my 2002 chevy venture. the keys are the ones with the chip in them. I followed the instructions on how to program the keys but it didn';t work. have any ideas?

Yes,it should work once you install the new switch unless they tore up the wiring.

The key is tied to the computer which controls the engine. Apparently the key you are using needs to be reprogrammed to the computer. The dealer can do this for you.

Have you tried moving shifter slowly through all gears, especially neutral when trying to start ? Sometimes safety neutral switch will become faulty & some movement of shifter may make it turn over.

Remove the center console and lubricate the shift mechanism. There is a small shaft that needs to snap into place in order to safely park the car.

Someone tried to steal my car and start it without the key how can I get my car to start 2006 chevy cobalt

That is a Passkey III antitheft system and requires a functional system (ignition switch module and transponder key). So what ever damage was done will need to be repaired.

If they snapped or popped the ignition switch assembly it will need to be replaced and the PCM programmed. If they ripped into wiring it will need repaired.

I changed the ignition switch on 2007 honda civic used the old emobillizer to start car and wont start it wants to crank but wont?

did you replace the switch or ignition lock cylinder, if you just replaced the switch ,and you disconnected battery you must have the original key to start it because it thinks someone trying to steal vehicles there a green key on dash that comes on then stays on, or goes out.if light stays on then the problem is the emoblilzer.you may have to have it towed to a dealer to have it reprogrammed.good luck, mike

Someone tried to steal my 2002 monte broke ignition. security light comes on cant start car can i disable it to get the car started

You have two choices, you can purchase a new ignition lock cylinder (costs between 150-200 at most any part store) and take it to a lock smith with your original key to have the pins changed to where your key operates the new lock cylinder. And then have it changed out. Or you can take your car to a mobile audio store that installs aftermarket remote start systems and have them bypass the PassLock anti theft system. Cost should be about the same either way, may be just a but cheaper for the bypass, but then your car will be more vulnerable. If the PassLock had been bypassed when they attempted to steal it, it might be gone right now.

Ignition switch repair

whats left of the key cylinder? Is it still in place? if it is or isn't... if you can turn it with a flat head screw driver to the "start" position then your in good shape. Chances are you have a transponder chip (a theft deterrent, probably why they weren't able to steal your car) built into you key... try to crank it with the screwdriver and place (the top of) your key near the cylinder so it can pick up the signal. as for replacing the cylinder... that's a bit more tricky, i would bring it to a dealership and try to get your insurance to cover it....

The car want start i think its the key because someone tried to steal the car before

IF YOU SEE CAR SECURITY LIGHT ON.WHEN YOU TURN KEY TO THE START POSITION.NO STARTER NOISE.TURN THE IGNITION KEY IN SWITCH TO THE RUN POSITION FOR 10 MINUTES.IF SECURITY LIGHT IS OFF.TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH FOR 5 SECONDS.THEN START ENGINE.IS IT STARTS OR NOT. YOUR SECURITY THEFT SYSTEM IS GOING BAD THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO REPLACE BODY CONTROL MODULE WITH NEW IGNITION KEYS AND LOCK CYLINDER AND SWITCH.THEY HAVE TO PROGRAM IT IN TO PCM SO CAR WILL START.MAKE SURE BATTERY IS GOOD IT HAS 12.5 VOLTS AND BATTERY CABLES CLEAN AND TIGHT.BECAUSE A BAD STARTER OR SOLENOID SWITCH AND WEAK BATTERY WILL CAUSE NO START UP.
