1999 Mitsubishi Mirage- Bogging down when flooring the accelerator?

Ok so i know i need a new rotatator cap as well as an air filter however is there anything else i need to replace/repair in order to solve this problem. The car starts fine and when I just cruise up to top speed it seems to be alright, the problem occurs when i floor the accelerator to push it seems like no matter what speed im going it just boggs down.. anyone has any opinions??

Hi there,

Your vehicle incorporates an on-board diagnostic (OBD) computer, which monitors behaviour of your vehicle's engine and ommission related cicruits.

This sounds like an electrical issue (I suspect perhaps your Throttle Position Sensor - TPS, or similar circuit). Your OBD computer will have stored the appropriate code/s causing this condition.

Have your codes read by an approved Mitsubishi Agent, who will then be able to advise what will be required to fix this issue.

Having your codes read should ALWAYS be the first step, as this will save you $'s and time, elimination the need to purchase unnecessary parts.

Hope this helps,

Scott

Try replacing the two ignition coils on top the engine. My sons 1.8 had a problem with no power and occasional miss, which felt like a transmission problem but was fixed with the coils. We replaced both, but a less expensive route would be to swap out one at a time until you notice the difference.
