Just purchased a 2001 Hyundai Elantra for my son. The airbag light stays on on the dashboard. Does that mean the airbag is working, or not working? There was no owners manual with this car, and I'd like to know.
If your airbag light comes on it means its not working. Some of the newer airbag systems have weight sensors under the seats and anything lodged under them can disable the passenger airbag and possibly cause the light to go on. If there are no other symptoms, and nothing impeding the airbags then the car thinks the airbag wont work. If you are concerned for your son's safety, take it to a qualified mechanic and have them check/replace your airbag. Good Luck!

I had this problem with mine, in fact I'd even take it to the the repair shop and they'd fix it only to have the light come back on a couple days later. What finally seems to have fixed it for me was apparently there was a recall for this problem. Call your local Hyundai dealership and ask them about it. I didn't even need to bring my notice in with me, they just took it and repaired it for me at no cost.
