Don't know why you would expect to smell gas

Could be the fuel pump

Haven't you ever tried starting a car over and over and smelled gasoline ? The fuel pump is sending gas to the engine.

I don't do that I diagnose why it doesn't start & test for fuel pressure or perform other tests

SOURCE: where is the oil filter on the 2009 Toyota corolla

I assume that you have a 1.8 engine. The oil filter is in a round metal housing under the engine; you have to remove the housing to access the cartridge type oil filter; the 1.8s do not have a "spin-on" filter.

SOURCE: 1993 toyota corolla fuel pump fues are relay

to check the fuel pump on you car you need to put ignition in the on position and open the butterfly of the MAF sensor that is mounted on top of your air filter. Toyota's fuel filter won't come on unless there is air going in the engine. your problem may not be the pump, so you need to check the pump properly.

Try cleaning the Throttle Body and MAF (mass air flow sensor). If that doesn't fix it, an auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer can diagnose which sensor is causing it to dump fuel in 'Short Term Fuel Trim'.

2006 Corolla. I smell gasoline after I turn off the engine. Car has 108,000 miles and runs very well.

You have fuel leakage on the pressurized/engine side of the fuel delivery line or filter at engine has a bad o-ring from being over tightened. Check all with engine running. And you should see a bit of fuel on the ground at the leak point.

Find out if the engine is getting gas to it. Sometimes a plugged fuel filter or a problem with the fuel injectors can prevent the engine from getting any gasoline. To check this remove the air cleaner and smell inside the throttle body or air cleaner housing. If the engine is getting enough gas you should be able to sense a strong gasoline smell due to the amount of uncombusted fuel left inside the intake manifold.
Determine whether the spark plugs are firing. If there is plenty of gas but no spark, the engine will crank but not start. Unplug one of the spark plug wires and plug in a spark tester. Have a friend get in the car and crank the engine while you watch to see if the spark tester illuminates. You can usually purchase a spark tester at an auto parts store for about ten dollars.

Was this the smell of burnt fuel or raw gasoline? If this started after it began getting cold outside this can indicate a problem with the EVAP system in the car. This may or may not cause a check engine light.

This site reported a 2010 model of your car having this same symptom.
They found the injector seals to be leaking.

That can be a very serious issue with the potential to cause a fire. I would have it checked by a professional mechanic and specify your concern on the injector seals being checked.

ENGINE IS TURNING OVER AND THE ALTERNATOR CRANK IS TURNING BUT ITS NOT STARTING

There are only two possible causes
one is the no fuel and the other is no spark. If you can smell gasoline at the exhaust pipe then there is no spark. This could be from a lot of things. The usual suspect Go to Bing homepage

My 94 blazer has been stored and not started for a while now it wont start what should i try first it seems to not be firing and cant smell any gas

Turn on your lights- If their bright then you have juice in the battery.

How old is your fuel? Did you use fuel stabilizer?

Is the truck turning over? If not, lightly tap your starter it may be sticking. Then try to start it again.

If its turning over check for spark in the wires.

Check to see how bad your plugs are, pop them out. You may need some new ones.

95 dodge ram 1500 with 5.9 engine new coil, crank, cam, computer and wires and plugs only turns over wont start

Hi,here's what you need to do to find out the cause of your problem, and get your car back on the road.
  • Make sure that you have enough gas in your car. This sounds like common sense but many people don't think to check this before wondering why their car won't start. Try to refill your tank when it is no less than one quarter full, or you risk getting stalled or stuck somewhere.
  • Verify that the battery has a full charge. A battery with a low or partial charge can cause the engine to crank too slow preventing it from starting. Sometimes a jump will fix this problem, but if your battery is more than five years old you should consider replacing it, especially if winter is only a few months away.
  • Check to see if your fuel pump is turning on. This can easily be done by putting your key in the ignition, turning it to the "on" position, and listening carefully with your ear pointed toward the back seat. If your fuel pump is working you will here an electric "whirring" noise for about 2 seconds every time you cycle the key on and off. If you hear nothing then your fuel pump is faulty or not getting any power.
