Overdrive off light on shifter flashing.not down shifting though. but when i slow down it down shifts hard into second gear then its fine. help!

The Check Engine Light is on? Did you read the DTCs.

The second link has the answer, the first link says it is a known issue. It is times like this you need the Dealership or a good auto electrician.

check for shifter adjustment as it appears to have slipped out of position

Make sure the filter is clean and you have the correct fluid in it. Also check that the shift cable adjustment is correct.

replace any worn bushes/parts /linkages and adjust the shifter position

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

Sounds like the sensor for first gear.
The transmission comes with a shift sensor for each shift: if 4 shift, 4 sensor (including reverse).
Have somebody check the sensors and the cpu for the tranny. They go hand to hand.

1995 F150 Crew Cab 4x4 with automatic transmission kicks in and of gear, Have to mess with it to get it to go back into gear.
transmission does not slip at all. Can drive it for awhile and then it does it again. Can you help?

I had a similar problem which turned out to be caused by a leaking vacuum line.

chances are you don't have to replace the computer. the reason i tell you this is because you did not mention that the car is running lousy. no complaints of rough idle or missfire or hard starting. chances are that your engine speed sensor which sends the signal to the computer which then controls the transmission is most likely the culprit.. and it could just bhe that there is a loose connection between the two. if that is ok then your transmission control module is faulty. this is not the main computer, but the gobetween the trans and the ecm.. hope this helps please rate this...thanks(btw....the knock sensors control timing not the trans mission)
