If oil underneath than a connecting rod may have gone thrue the oil pan or engine block.if it was hammering the engine is done. Sorry for the bad news.

SOURCE: Have a 03 matrix with a oilpump promblem I

Generally three things can turn the light on. First is the sending unit itself if it's going bad. Next is an obstruction of the pump pickup screen (usually hard carbon deposits). Third is worn engine bearings (usually rod bearings). Best way to find the problem is to have someone put a mechanical pressure gauge on the engine and read the actual pressure. If it's low you need to go into the engine to determine why. if it's normal, replace the sending unit. Senders aren't terribly expensive and you could just buy one and replace the one you have, providing the engine isn't tapping or knocking.

Why is my 1998 toyota corolla oil getting short

Is there any white smoke? Could be your valve stem seals. But the Toyota Corolla in this year's is known for burning oil. If you are having to add more than 1 quart per month. You may have a problem. Check for the obvious. Milky oil. Idle it to op temp and smell exhaust for burnt oil smell. Hit the gas...see any white smoke? Open your radiator cap after running and smell for exhaust... If all is well then you have a normal running toyota corolla. These cars are champs. They just tend to burn a Lil oil here and there.

There is LOTS of oil covering my spark plugs, the other day I was driving on the hwy when it suddenly started slowing down even though my foot was on the pedal. I was going 70mph and then slowly dropped...

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
If there's oil on the sides of the engine valve cover then the valve cover gasket should be replaced. If there's oil on the spark plugs then the enginve valve seals must be replaced. Worn out valve seals can make the oil get in the plugs.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Bought the envoy w/ 70,000 miles, fresh oil change. @ 74,000 miles it was 1.5 qrts low, put in 5w30, checked oil 2 weeks later it was 1 qrt low. do not see smoke or any leaking.

I just bought a 2005 envoy too. I read in the manual that the 4.6 6 cyl engine needs 7 qts total. 2 Over the normal oil change. Is it possible it wasn't low to start? I noticed when Walmart changed the oil they charged extra for the change because it needed the two extra qts. However my dip stick has oil over the full mark. Seemed strange but I haven't had any leaks and after 3k mile no change in level. Make sure you had the correct about the first time.

My 2000 1.6 litre Corolla has a loud knocking from top of engine. Sounds like a valve dropped or seized and maybe hitting piston. The engine has been running well but suffering high oil consumption.

STOP RUNNING THE MOTOR IMMEDIATELY!!! If it has dropped a valve all you are doing is making the damage worse. Take the valve cover off and make sure all of the valve stems are there. If not replace or rebuild the motor.

Smoking auto tranny

I had a similar problem with my ford 1/2 ton pulling a trailer on a grade against the wind on hot day. thought I completely fried the tranny. Let it cool off, continued the trip and drove the truck for years with no more problems. Can't explain how your dip stick was dry however. The dipstick should have been wet with foamed trans oil.

I just bought a 2000 Toyota Corolla 85000 miles. Its burning oil up to a quart every 2 days! The dealership says it could be so many different things? I did'nt get warranty and the Toyota dealership says...

Sounds like you're not burning oil (blue smoke would be a good indicator of this) but you're leaking oil. Most likely source considering how much oil you're losing would be the valve cover gasket. Look under the hood for any pools of oil under the air breather pan around the valve cover. If you're not seeing oil on the ground where you park, it could all be burning off on the manifold.
If it's not the valve cover gasket, then next likely source could be oil seals.
