Starts then dies, changed fuel filter,ran beter but had to warm up to drive, still missing. put it on computer said throtle positioner n tune up,changed t.p. drove 20 mls.still bad cleaned air filter,reved afew times, drove slow 1/4 ml. blew catalitic converter off muffler. cat. conv. red hot at back end, cut cat. conv. off ,still misses, runs ruff. please help

I had a problem with the brakes on my 2005 GMC that significantly increased the fuel consumption. The calipers for the disk brakes were not moving freely and were causing the brake pad on one side to always contact the rotor. This problem is easily found by checking for heated brakes after a short drive or by coasting to a stop to see if the truck rolls easily without power.

SOURCE: engine Back fired, blew out muffler.

Sounds like you may have gotten some debris in your exhaust pipe or something was clogging your muffler. Maybe the innerds of you Catalytic Coverter went and got stuck or the innerds of your muffler gave out. That would be the only few things I could think of to cause something like that.

It is probably a bad coil, have someone put it on a computer and see what cylinder is missing. The coils go bad all the time on the 5.4's

check the module located on the side of the distributor. I have had that problem and that was the ticket. Fords are common for that sort of failure.

It sounds like you might have a clogged catalatic converter on the exhaust system.
