My windshield wipers wont work.

When i turn on the windshield wipers you can hear the motor humming but, the wipers don't move. What am I dealing with here? Is it a faulty motor or another problem entirely.

Most cars and trucks have an arm that attaches the wiper motor to the actual wiper arm assembly . usually the plastic bushing type retainer goes bad. this will let the wiper motor run but the wipers themselves wont work.

It Sounds Like, Either The Arms Are Loose ,If You Can Hear Something Moving Behind The Dash,
Or The Linkages Are Seized ,If The Motor Just Hums No Movement Heard,In Which Case Try Spraying Q 20 On The Linkage And Try Moving The Wiper Arms By Hand To Get It Going Again,
If Not The Motor May Just Be Burn;t Out.

SOURCE: windshield wipers don't move, but hear motor running

check the nuts on the wiper arms and make sure they are tight. If the nuts are tight then a linkage on the wiper transmission probably came loose or broke. You'll have to pull some cowling off to access it.

Your wiper linkage has come off the wiper motor. To reconnect the linkage, first remove the wiped arms, the remove the wiped cowl. The wiper cowl bolts are located under the hood and screws through the spaces in the cowl. Reconnect linkage, reinstall cowl, reinstall wiped arms.

My windshield wipers moter is running but wipers not moving I got a 2002 ponniac Bonneville

If upon turning the switch, you hear either a buzzing or a noise coming from the wiper area but no movement of the windshield wipers, then it becomes likely that there is a mechanical problem. In front wiper systems, there are two moving parts, the wiper motor and the wiper transmission. In rear wiper systems with a single wiper, there’s a single moving part, the wiper motor.

If you hear a buzz, it could be a motor straining to move a jammed wiper transmission or a locked motor gear. If you hear a grind coming from the wiper area, it could be a stripped gear in either the motor, the transmission or where the wiper arm splines to the wiper motor in the rear. Don’t let the term transmission fill you with dread; it’s simply a term for a multi-lever set of arms and hinges that turn the circular motion of the wiper motor into the side to side motion of the wiper arms. It is also possible that the spline on the post of the front wiper arms is stripped.

Generally speaking, you can reach the motor and transmission by removing the wiper arms, all the screws that hold the cowl beneath the wiper arms and the weather stripping. Once exposed, you should be able to remove the motor from the transmission and check to see if the transmission is binding or if the motor is the culprit. Simply, replace the culprit, and reassemble.

If the problem is with the rear wiper system, getting to the wiper motor can be more difficult with far more trim to remove than with a front system. You may elect to consult your mechanic for help.

Wiper motor

Possible wiper linkage has broken/seperated from wiper motor. The wiper cowling covering the linkage assembly will need to be removed to inspect/repair

Windsheild wiper wont move

Check to see if the nut is tight on the wiper down at the bottom, secondly turn the wipers on and put your ear down by the wipers to see if you can hear the motor moving. If you hear the motor moving the arms under the plastic sheathing have seperated. Try the nut first see if that fixes your problem then try the rest.

Windshield wiper doesn't work

If both wipers don't move, could be the switch or the wiper motor.

I have a 1992 dodge shadow.but the windshield wipers isn't working.I checked the motor is well, the terminal voltage is 12V,how can I continu to repair the 1992 dodge shadow's windshield wipers?

You posting is slightly confusing but I gather your windshield wipers stopped working.
The repair method is as follows;
) Check the fuse.
) Check the wiper motor. Turn the wipers on and listen for the hum of the motor.

If you hear the hum then the linkage has probably come loose. You will have to take the covers off
to get to the linkage for the wiper. You can either repair the parts, get salvage yard parts or replace with new part$.

If you do not hear the motor hum then you should verify electricity is getting to the motor. A simple
voltmeter can be used. If the motor is bad you can replace it. Call some auto supply stores for after-market motors or call salvage yards for parts.
