Cabriolet cuts off - 1990 Volkswagen Cabriolet

Most probably you need to check the fuses , as maybe some fuses went out when wires were cut

Hi Sally, You'll need to remove the seat cushion (the lower part where people sit) At the bottom of the backrest there are bolts holding it in place. Once these are removed, lift the seat upwards removing it from the retainers. Depending on the model you may need to cut (or have cut) an opening through the bulkhead Be very careful of sharp edges when reaching through the opening. Depending on how badly damaged the boot is you may need to get assistance to open the boot. Once open it may not stay closed again so be careful of that too. Regards John

Try cleaning intake manifold with cleaner you can get from any auto suply store. just follow the insructions on the cleaner. Sometimes carbon builds up inside the manifold.

mcdevito75 here, It could be the Starter itself, showing up bad only when hot, looseing electricall connection in the starter, specially if it;s the original one. Take a chance, change the starter.

boy racer weekend mechanic alarm ,its had a brain storm so just rip it out ,follow every wire and where the loom has been cut join the wires together ,simple but time consuming

check the dist shaft for wear also look for air leaks around the intake manifold

look in partslists from other countries like usa. when it is a unregulated cat you can also cut it out and weld a different one in between the pipes. good luck

it sounds like either the primary or secondry fuelpumps, take of the fuel line in the engine bay get some one to turn over the engine if no fuel is being squirted out of the pipe then its one of the pumps, check the pumps fuses and relays first, or could simply do with a drain and a good flush.

It sounds like the moron spliced into your power wires in your dash, to make your stereo work... or more likely cut them completely!
If you have the Chilton Manual Part #70400 ( 74 and Later Rabbit/Golf/Jetta...) and turn to page 12-79, you'll find a wiring schematic for your Cabriolet.
Hopefully, you won't have to tear your whole dash out to fix this mess!
I suggest removing the new stereo first. and then start looking around in there for a brown w/red stripe wire hanging loose somewhere. If you find it, just get a wire nut, or **** connector, and splice it back together with it's missing end. You can do this as a 3 way splice quite easily, and it's common practice in alot of stereo shops. Seems that oftentimes that ignition cable is just the easiest power supply on hand!

Possibly a clogged catalytic converter. Even if it is clogged it can be irratic. I had a muffler shop check it by cutting a hole before it with a torch, changed it out and i was good to go.
