Power steering fluid gone in 2000 kia after filling up this morning.

  • mdenny67 Feb 25, 2009

I checked after driving this morning for leaks, nothing yet. I changed my alternator and belt yesterday, does the ps belt tension have any thing to do with this?

  • mdenny67 Feb 25, 2009

I found the leak, it is located under alternator and has a rubber boot around it. Looks to be two hoses that are attacthed by connector

Hi mdenny67,

You obviously have a leak somewhere (and a pretty bad one at that). Check around the reservoir (where you fill it up) for obvious leakage. Park your car somewhere that you'll be able to spot it on the ground, then move the car. This will give you an idea of where on the car it's leaking from. After this is done, look under the car in the area it's leaking from and we'll see about some repair instructions after that.

Hope I've helped, don't forget to rate.

    It shouldn't no.

The ONLY way you should be loosing fluid, is if it's leaking from somewhere. Is it possible its hitting something hot then burning off?

Kia rio 2004 The power steering fluid container was full and as I was driving I heard a pop some where in the engine I check everything and I was completely out of steering fluid I filled it up and turn...

Has the steering gone heavy? if the reservoir is empty and you top it up then it must have a substantial leak.If you cant see any fluid on the floor then it maybe that the leak is internal in the power steering rack.

My steering has gone hard only when turning there was a sudden hissing noise what could this be hope you can help dum blonde

are you leaking power steering fluid? is there any left in the car? normally all you have for power steering is a pump with fluid and an assist ram, if you hear hissing my guess would be that you blew the High end hose in the system, if it happened while driving with little turning such as freeway driving, you wouldn't notice until you got off and were driving slower and making more turns,, check your fluid, if its empty filling it won't do much good until the hose is replaced, but don't drive to many miles as it will end up burning out the pump

Powersteering is hard to steer fill reservior with fluid but fluid gone in 10 mins

You need your power steering repaired by a professional, it is obviously losing oil and that is why it is hard to steer.

Where do you find the fill rea for automatic transmission fluid on a 2000 kia sephia? I swear i cannot find the fill area - found the oil, power steering & brake - but not the transmission fluid fill

There is no fill cap. simply use a small enough funnel that will fit in the dipstick tube for where you check the transmission fluid at. Add it directly down the dipstick tube. Make sure when you check it after applying some that your car is running. Also to get accurate reading let it sit a minute so it is not on the side of the stick.

Get noise like power steering fluid is gone from transmission in gear only

first of all power steering uses power steering fluid and the transmission uses transmission fluid, check both the power steering fluid level and the transmission fluid level and fill to proper levels with proper fluid

2003 kia sedona

I had the same thing (hard to turn, especially in cold temps, wouldn't return to straight.....). Since the power steering fluid was full, I decided it had to be "gunk" in the fluid, so I took my '03 Kia Sedona in to have the power steering fluid flushed & filled (over $100 I think!).

No better. So I took it to another mechanic and he said that the "U-Bolt" had frozen up. He changed it (part was $117 and labor was 2 hours, for a total cost of $350ish) and it's good as new now!
