What causes erratic idling on a peugeot 107

On startup without accelleration the engine revs up to around 3000rpm, it than drops to 1000rpm and continuously revs up and down between that range. Even whild cruising steady the engine suddenly picks up speed for a few seconds before dropping off immediately, causing the vehicle to surge forward and die off within a few meters. The engine however, doesn't switch off at all throughout, except when I choose to switch it off.

SOURCE: 1987 F 150 Problem: engine idle stalling and then surges

I had the same symptoms on my 1993 F-150. A friend of mine commented that he could smell gas in the exhaust. Eventually, it got to where it would start, then die after a few minutes and wouldn't restart after that (at least for several hours). It turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator that was causing it to flood. It was about a $25 part and an hour labor to replace (not difficult, just awkward getting to the hex head bolts).

You could check the manual book. Check the distances and difference. My Peugeot 408 is at normal level.

Nissan navara wont idle engine runs normal above 1000rpm but once revs drop below 1000rpm engine cuts out.

Take it to an automotive repair centre. This is not something that you can fix yourself.

Aveo 09 started idling at 800rpm on first startup after oil change, usually 1000rpm at startup

Not likely. 20W-50 is usually used in high rpm engines in warm to hot climate. By any chance is your windshield defroster on? When the defroster is blowing your air conditioner compressor is engaged which pulls the moisture out of the air so you get HOT DRY air blowing on the interior of your windshield

2003 ford escape V6 idles 1000rpm, then drops over 5 seconds and then cycles back to 1000rpm...i recently had alternator replaced. I have regular oil changes. New gas filter. It sounds like something...

A few things that could cause the problem are:1 Airflow meter that is if it is a fuel injected motor. 2 On carburettor models the idle solenoid will do that if it is faulty: 3 Airconditioning compressor or pump will click in and out with a sound causing the revs of the engine to alternate as it uses more or less energy accordingly. Also if the bearings in the compressor are worn in it's early stages of wear could make a similar sound to that of a fan: 4 The electric fan coming on too often because the engine is running very hot, could also cause the clicking sound as the thermostat clicks on and off. I suggest you check the water level in the bottle and in the radiator just to make sure that it's not getting too hot and if the levels are low then you have a problem that must be attended to immediately.

Check the fuel pressure regulator for to much pressure.Pull the vacuum hose off the map sensor and if fuel runs out then replace the regulator.

High rev, rough idle in golf

If your car is fuel injection, try changing the cold start temp sender.

Engine dies / cuts out when cold

Check the coolant temperature sensor. It is situated in the inlet manifold at the back of the engine bay. This basically acts like an automatic choke and tells the ECU to increase fuel mixture when the engine is cold.  I replaced many many of these to Renaults, Peugeots and Citroens for this exact fault.

Too fast idle running speed.

Typical idle for this motor is right around the amount you have described. Check to see if any check engine lights are on, or if the ABS light is on. A typical issue with this motor is the OVP relay that when not operating properly causes the engine to rev much too high (~1500-2000). Also do your revs drop significantly when you put the car into gear? If not then there really isnt an issue. When the motor is idling too high and you stick it into gear the car will typically lurch really hard.
