Adding Transmission Fluid

I don't have the owners manual and need to add transmission fluid. The only one not marked is the plastic container with the yellow cap. Is this where the transmission fluid goes?

Get a funnel and pour in the transmission fluid where the transmission oil dipstick is. The plastic container with the yellow cap is probably your radiator fluid (engine coolant)

Where is fill to add automatic trans fluid to 2008 BMW 650i under the hood?

The automatic transmission fluid fill location on a 2008 BMW 650i can vary depending on the specific model and transmission type, but generally it is located under the hood and accessed through a dipstick tube.

To locate the dipstick tube for the automatic transmission fluid, follow these steps:

1. Open the hood of the vehicle and locate the transmission fluid dipstick. The dipstick handle is usually yellow, red, or black and is labeled with "ATF" or "trans."
2. Remove the dipstick from the tube and wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
3. Reinsert the dipstick all the way back into the tube and then remove it again. The fluid level on the dipstick should indicate the current level of transmission fluid.
4. If the fluid level is low, you will need to add automatic transmission fluid. To add fluid, remove the dipstick and use a funnel to pour the fluid into the dipstick tube. Be sure to use the correct type of transmission fluid specified in your owner's manual.
5. Check the fluid level again with the dipstick to make sure it is at the correct level. Add more fluid as needed.

Note: It is important to follow the recommended procedure for checking and adding transmission fluid to your BMW 650i to avoid overfilling the system, which can cause damage to the transmission. If you are unsure about the location of the dipstick or how to properly add fluid, consult your owner's manual or a qualified mechanic for assistance.

Where do I add transmission fluid for 2006 mercury sable with over 175k mile only driving in city traffic Houston work and home.

You add transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. If memory serves me right and that is the 3.0 L motor, tube is on the left side at the firewall. Dipstick should have a "yellow" grip on it. Check the fluid level prior to adding fluid for adding too much fluid can do damage to transmission. You check fluid with engine running. Fluid should be within the "crosshatch" markings on the stick for proper level. You will need a long transmission funnel in order to get it in the small hole for that is the only one for adding fluid :o) Hope this gives you a helping hand in the task. Transmission whines when cold and shifts on the edge

Sounds like it maybe slipping, try checking the transmission fluid level and add as necessary to full mark of near full mark, which is in the operating range, could do what I did with my windstar minivan, add in the Lucas Transmission Fix, for your Ford Taurus you'll need Mercon ATF ( Automatic Transmission Fluid ) unless its a manual transmission or differently specified which then will need different fluid, check the owners manual, repair manual or phone Ford and ask them for transmission fluid type. Keep in mind that the wrong fluid type in transmission and or wrong amounts ( overfilled ) or ( underfilled ) can affect the transmission's proper operation.

Also check your coolant, when coolant level is low the light will come on the dash cluster and add as needed, Fords usually use the green coolant, green colored coolant or could use the universal type coolant. Check the owners manual, look in a repair manual or ask Ford technician for the coolant type.

Transmission is going in gear every time but the car won't drive every time

Have a look at the automatic transmission fluid.
Under the hood should be 2 long dipsticks, usually they have a colored plastic handle so you can see them more easily.
You will need to identify them, perhaps ask a friend for help.
One dipstick is for motor oil, the other for automatic transmission fluid.
The automatic transmission fluid should be redish in color, that is a dye put in the fluid so you know it is not motor oil.
Check that fluid, your owner's manual in the glove box will tell you whether to warm the eingine up first before you check it.
If the fluid is low, add some with a long funnel, only add a pint at a time, and check it about 5 minutes after you add it.
Repeat this until it shows full.
Car parts stores sell quarts of automatic transmission fluid.
If you pull the dipstick from the transmission and it is not low, and the fluid is clean (not black coloured), you may either have a transmission that has failed, or your brakes may be sticking ( like the emergency brake is on).
Be blessed

Adding transmission fluid

Add transmission fluid to the same tube you check the transmission fluid level. It will resemble the oil dipstick tube, only it's a larger tube that will accommodate a funnel to add additional fluid. It's important not to overfill the recommended level so try adding 1/2 quart at a time until the level is withing the markings on the transmission fluid dipstick.

Wher do I locate my transmission fluid and brake fluid?

The Transmission fluid stick is located toward the back of the engine on the drivers side. Check on a level surface when the engine is hot and the vehicle is in "Park". Don't add fluid if within the crosshatch marks. Be sure to use the correct fluid if adding. Check your owner's manual for the correct Mercon fluid. My 2001 taurus with the 3.0 engine uses Mercon V (Mercon 5) only.

The Brake fluid can be visually checked. The master cylinder reservoir is also located on toward the back of the engine on the driver's side

Where do I add transmission fluid?? I see the fluid level stick but no cover for a reservior. I can't find any help online and the manual has no diagram of where things should be.

You fill your transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. Be sure to check the existing transmission fluid while the vehicle is running in park after it has reached its peak operating temperature. You will notice two marks on the dipstick the bottom is a cold mark and the upper is a hot mark. If you need to add fluid be sure to use dexron mercon 3 atf and add the fluid in small increments to avoid overfilling and damaging transmission. When adding fluid add 1/4 of a quart at a time with your parking brake on and foot on the brake shift it through all ranges 2 or 3 times and check fluid again and add more fluid and repeat this step until full

How much tranamission fluid does my 1997 sable hold

If you have your owners manual, there is a section containing the capacities for all fluids. You may also simply check your fluid level, with a running motor and warm transmission. If the stick indicates add, start with a 1/4 quart and work your way up. Unless there is a problem with the trans, there is no real reason to ever add fluid unless your are flushing the transmission.

Do i add transmission fluid while the car is hot or cold

How to check automatic transmission fluid. Place your car at a level surface and engage the parking brake. Start the engine. Set transmission shifter in "P" (Park) position, and let the engine idle (on some cars this procedure may be different, check the owners' manual for details). Pull the transmission dipstick. Check your owners manual to find where transmission dipstick is located in your car.
Wipe it off with a clean lint free rag. Then insert it back carefully all the way down into its place.
Pull again and check the fluid level. If the engine is cold, it should be within "COLD" marks. If the car was driven and is fully warmed up, the level should be at the upper end of the "HOT" mark. If it's just a little bit lower I wouldn't worry about it. Otherwise I'd top it up. Check the fluid condition also: If it's too black and dirty with burnt smell - your transmission is not going to last. Normally it should be clean and transparent, as in the image. The new fluid comes red. Over the time it becomes brownish. If it is brown, check your owner's manual, may be it's time to change it. Some manufacturers require to change the transmission fluid at 30,000 or 50,000 miles others specify that you never have to change it - check what's your car owner's manual says.

I hope this helps!
