Hi Basketballve,

I did not personally know the answer to your question, so I looked on Wikianswers.

This is taken directly from their site.

must have code in owners manual
Turn the ignition to position one (accessory), turn on the radio so you can see the display, and come back in 2 hours. The display should read "CODE". At this point you must enter the code for your radio. I have owned 4 VOlVOs (1998 through 2006) and have never found the radio code in any of my manuals; perhaps it was published for earlier models.
If you do not have the code, remove the radio by pushing on the vertical buttons on the radio face. They pop out and provide a means to slide the radio forward. Copy down the radio model, eg. 813, 816, and serial number. Bring this information AND A COPY OF YOUR REGISTRATION SHOWING THE VIN to your dealer, or to any Volvo dealer. They need to correlate the VIN and radio SN to be assured that the radio had not been stolen. They can look up the the code in a database and provide it to you. If they tell you the radio is no good or want to charge you a ridiculous fee, go elsewhere.
Once you have the code, turn on the radio and enter is using the preset buttons. Wait a moment, and the radio should turn on. If it does not, the code is incorrect. This is possible if the radio you have is not the one that was shipped with the original vehicle. If so, you must remove the radio and bring it to the dealer who can reprogram a new code into the radio. Depending on the circumstances, they may or may not do it for you, because they have no proof that you are the legitimate owner of the radio.
If not, I saw an advert for radiocodes.com who claim they just need the radio SN and will provide the code for a fee.

Hope I've helped, don't forget to rate.

My radio is in off mode but i know the code. how do i fix that. i put in the wrong code and now it is off

The last time I had this issue, I put the wrong code in the radio 3 times and it wouldn't let me try again. So I read the instructions. They said that, after 3 failures, the radio won't switches of for 20 minutes.

With luck yours is the same, at a guess 20mins has passed since your last go, so go have another try.

Battery died, got jump, now the radio is off and needs a code for 2001 Volvo S40, that I don't have.

Hi!!
When the battery is disconnected or drained and you restore power, the radio will say 'CODE' on the display. This is your cue to find the easily misplaced credit-card lookalikes that have your radio's code written on it. New Volvo owners got two, I believe.

Dealers have your radio code in a database, and can look it up. Many will give you the code over the phone if you've lost your card. You can call any Volvo dealer: they all have the same computer system to look up your Volvo radio code.

Sometimes the code is written on the radio itself. But you have to pull the radio out (not hard) to see it.

Other dealers will have you drive to their lot and speak to them in person. Because the dealer will need to read off the radio's serial number to cross-reference it with the unique code, bring your radio, and your Volvo. Some reportedly charge US$10-$100 for this. Hmmmmm. I suppose dealers can choose to charge for this, and we can choose to not go back, right?

If you don't have the code, call the dealer to ask what they need from you. Don't pay the dealer any money for the code! If they want money, hang up and call another.

Good Luck!! A 4 THUMBS UP rating for this solution will be highly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

Cant find code for radio

My husband had the same issue with not knowing the code (we bought the car used, never given the code). If you remove the radio, it should be printed on top. Odd, I know, but that is where his was located.

How do i reset the radio code in a volvo 850 glt sedan 1996

go to your local volvo dealership, and you must have the car in your name, but ask one of the mechanics if you can have the code for your radio, they'll look it up and give it to you I believe.
