My 1993 Ford Explorer dies going down the highway. It takes about five minutes to start back up. It will do this 2 or 3 times in a few miles or sometimes not at all. Dont know what to do.
First thing i would check would be the fuel filter. Sometimes, when they first start to give problems, there is enough gas to keep them idling or driving around town, but when you get on the highway they starve for fuel.

There is a black fuel relay way up under the top left driver side dash that breaks its main wire solder connections on the circuit board under over-heat conditions. Resolder that relay. Starting fluid will show that you have lost fuel delivery under no start conditions. You can use the breather hose from the valve cover for this test.
check the wires on the feed to the fuel pump ,,also check that it hasnt got the cut out thingy on top of the fuel tank like the ford explorer, unless this is only fitted on the europeon models .?
to be sure let the engine cool down then check the coolant level if is low than normal put some until reach the normal level then start the truck dont drive it on the road in five minutes or less will be hot enough to creat pressure on the cooling sistem check for leaks around the engine if the weather is too cold some steam will come out from the exaust pipe and some times a little bite of water from the butom of the moufler but dont have to be antifrezz if is coolat coming from the exaust sistem beter tow the truck is cheaper to change a cilinderhead gasquet than the engine good luck
This is not a bogging down problem if the engine is reving up it sounds like you have a very badley slipping tourk converter or you have a band in your tranny slipping and that is why you can go for a little while longer if you shut it off
