Broken Horn won't *******- 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

I have an 03' Malibu with 60k mile on it. I honked the horn and it wouldn't stop honking! Quick think led me to take the fuse out. Brought it to the local chevy dealer (stupid), and they said it would cost $1k to fix it, because they needed to replace the airbag. Is this right? I am moving to a new state and will need the horn when the DMV does the inexpection. Any suggestions?

Hi. If your airbag has not deployed, you don't have to replace it. The airbag may have to be removed to get at the horn circuit. Try taking it to an independent auto repair place. I'll be willing to bet that they'll give you a better price for the repair. Good luck! ricardok45

Why horn keeps honking when starting 2001 malibu?

The horn works off "Ground". Your horn wire is grounding out somewhere.

The horn on my 1998 malibu wont stop honking relay replaced and still doing it...should I replaced the steering wheel colomn...think the spring is broken...

I would ask a mechanic about this as you could cause more problems if you get into this mess of wires and will cost you more in the long run. He should not charge just to answer a question.

Chevy malibu horn won't stop honking

Why not just unplug the horn rather than the battery? One wire plugs into it. The cause could be a number of things. (i.e. Horn button stuck in steering wheel, defective anti-theft system, etc....) This is a tough one to diagnosis.

My horn used to honk when I locked my 1999 Jeep with the remote

If you have your owner's manual, there is a section that will tell you the exact sequence to press to enable/disable the horn bonk. It has three settings, chirp, honk, and off. The chirp is a really quick chirp of the horn. Honk is a longer honk. Off seems to be what you've set.

I hope this helps.

2000 Tahoe Horn broken

You can remove the horn relay and use a Ohm meter and check the resistance between the horn relay connector terminal No. 86 (Black Wire) and ground. If the ohms are less then 5 ohms replace the horn relay. There are a lot more tests but as Polarcycle states you can do what he suggested other then I believe you have two horns in this vehicle.

99 malibu horn honks shifting into D or R

wires from the horn run down the steering column and pass the area where the shift linkage is also in the column. its either a loose wire, or a chafted wire inside the column. Be VERY careful working on this if you have airbags. they must be disarmed before you work on the column.
