1995 cadillac eldorado revs up by it self

95 or 76, what year eldorado?

Are you parked on a hill with the parking pawl stuck? If so you must move the car to relieve the stress.
It could be just wear, how many miles on it?
If you can find the linkage on the tranny perhaps you can release it there.

Most of the time this happens when you park on a surface that is not flat and the vehicles weight is putting pressure on the front wheels, which in turn will put pressure on the steering wheel, which in turn puts pressure on the switch and makes it hard to turn. Try to turn the steering wheel as much as you can and turn the key, if this does not work, rock the car back and forth and again try the key until the pressure is relieved and the switch can be turned. Since the steering locks when the key is turned off, you have limited range to relieve the tension. The only other solution to this problem is to jack up the front of the car to relieve the tension on the steering/switch, or you have another issue that would probably require a new switch.

Could be the transmission.Make sure it is full of fluid. Hold your foot on the brake and give it some gas with the other foot. If you feel a miss, then it is a miss fire.

Alot of the time, "no start" situations can be traced back to the antitheft system. Especially in GM vehicles like your Cadillac. When this system fails, the antitheft system doesn't get the proper signal from your key. This puts they car into antitheft mode and turns off the starter to prevent theft. Go around the car to the passenger side, and insert the rounded door key in the door, then lock and then unlock the door with the key. This should disable the anti-theft system. This also will shut off the horn blowing when the alarm is tripped. This works on all older Cadlillacs. Hope this helps.

can be the cluster unit or ignition module that is at fault. clusters are exchanged units at any cadillac dealer. the ignition module sends the signal for the reading on the tach gauge

well sounds like the trany is slipping, make sure trany fluid is full and clean, also check engine light will reset when ignition is turned off but if you scan computer a code can be pulled to help in diagnosing this problem. start with checking the fluid and making sure its clean and full. good luck hope this is helpful.

I have a complete dash for a 95 which should fix it. They are kind of a pain to replace, and the one I have has 91,000 on the odometer.
