a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo, with a grinding sound coming from the left rear
window when I try to move it up/down. Research indicates that it'
probably the motor/regulator. Could it be anything else?
I'd like to take a look at the mechanism, but I don't know how to
remove the door panel. If someone could provide docs/diagrams/pointers,
I'd appreciate it.
If it's the motor/regulator, I local replacement depot has the part for ~$85 but it'll be a few days.
Also, if i can get the door panel open, is there a way to "push" the
window back into the close position. It's currently an inch or so open.
To remove the door panel there will be 2-5 screw bolts in places like the door handle and behind switch and handle panels. Remove them then teh panel will either lift straight up or pop out if it is held with panel plugs then use a flat pry tool to pop them out.
It does sound like the regulator which is cable driven and will by basiclly held on the glass and the door with bolts. You will need to move the old motor to the new part.

Certainly possible, but very unusual. Normal life is around 60,000 miles but of course driving highway and no city traffic would extend the life. How many clutches so far ?
There is a four way plug on transmission ,unplug it. The over drive in that model is actually a lock up converter. The converter is bad.
check your turn signal flasher and replace all bulbs turn signal bulbs.
it is possible the regulator is fine and it just came unattached from the glass. Grasp the glass and try to move it up and down if it will move up and down tape it up until you get it fixed. If it seems like it is still attached then yes likely you will need to replace the regulator.
