SOURCE: my 1992 lexus ls 400 keeps stalling and idleis very low

Look for a small electric motor near the accelerator cable and near the top of the valve cover.

It's call IDLE AIR CONTROL (IAC) motor.

It's job is to increase the idle when load is added.
Example: turning on headlight,turning on AC.

Testing it is simple.

Warm up you car for 10 minutes.

Locate the IAC motor

turn on loads.....AC,headlights,etc

The motor should move the idle up

If the motor does not increase the RPM then it can be stick.

Try to give it few gentle taps to free up the gears.

It can be clean if your are up to it.

This electrical motor is very expensive. Please handle it with care.

====

The other trouble spot are

old accelerator cable

TPS Throttle position sensor

====

I will do a simple tune up and gas treatment before starting to replace any parts.

SOURCE: hi i got a lexus LS 400 1998 and my starter die

the starter is located in the valley under the intake manifold. you must remove the intake to access the starter. its a pretty involved job. when reassembling take your time and make sure that every wire is plugged in and every vacum line is connected.

I would inspect your wires at the starter. If you live up north then corrosion is bad, clean all wires going to starter. then clean wires to back of alternator. I seriously doubt that alternator is the problem, but if you remove it you can have it tested for free at most parts stores.

Testimonial: "Thank you! You was right, it was not the alternator, it was a 125 AMP that was blown."

Transmission or altenator?

I would say change the alternator out. Start with the simplest and cheapest factor first. Without the alternator keeping the engine running its hard to put it any gear.

My car just stopped ....lost power. Battery is only 1 year old or less. thought it was a cable connecting the battery because we replaced it and it started right up. Drove it all day today...no...

yes, a bad alternator. If your alternator was working, the car wouldn't need the jumpers to keep running. Take the alternator off and have it tested at your local parts chain. Let me know if you need instructions or have other questions.

sounds like you need a new alternator but I would replace battery cables and probably the battery as well.

If the car ran and got you home after a jump start I doubt the alternator is bad. Check your battery. And remember never ever disconnect the battery cable with the engine running.

Starter wont crank.

Next step is to get under the car and check the connections at the starter.. Do you have a 12 volt test light. If so probe the solenoid wire while someone hold the key in cranking position. If you have voltage there the starter died and needs to be replaced.  Always use jack stands while working under a jacked up car!!!
