2000 GMC 2500 Truck died going down road acted like out of gas put gas in nothing, pulled the fuel filter and blew out then removed and turned key on nothing came out of line. Think its the fuel pump?
Check for power too the pump first with a test light if you have power too it then the pump is bad if not youve got a short some gms also have a fuse check for that also

have you checked to see if engine is firing? ignition module can go bad and you would loose fire and fuel at the same time. i replaced one on a chevy truck last week and it was located beside the ignition coil.
Could be just the fuel filter. A common symptom of a failed filter is for it quit at higher speeds, then start again after a rest period. A partially-clogged filter is still under pressure when just stopped and bleeds through some fuel with time so it'll start again. If this happens, you may be able to limp home slowly and change that filter. BE CAREFUL if you've never done this before, the fuel is under high pressure, it can spray all over you. And if you've ever run the tank very low or completely out and kept cranking on it, you can burn up the fuel pump because it wants to be immersed in gas to keep it cool.... Good luck.
It is normal for the pump to run for two seconds when first switched on to pressurize the fuel system. It will turn on again when cranking and while running. I would still suspect the pump given your symptoms, however other problems could also give you the same symptoms. If it is the original pump from 2002, or more than about 7 or 8 years old, I would definitely replace it, and the fuel filter. Often the pump will go intermittent. I had one that I could restart and get down the road by hitting the bottom of the gas tank a few times!
for sure get under truck with someone else inside with a rubber hammer or a block of wood hit the tank in the center and ask the person to crank the engine if it starts yes fuel pump time this is quite often the problem if it doesnt work start new fuses first then fire at the plugs injectors and so on but almost sure 95% fuel pump as well change fuel filter or you may have bad gas but it ran good before and nobody put sugar in the tank
i have a 2000 nissan frontier that dies going down road,it has knock sensor, camshaft sensor&primary ignition circuit failure.had a new distributor.thanks for any help
Is Check engine light on..? Your problem sound like a fuel pressure related .If you have a fuel pressure tester, check the fuel pressure dont't drop. (key on engine off)
your fuel pump needs to be replaced. i had the same problem but i had a full tank of gas in it. so the easiest thing for me to do was to pull back the carpet and cut a hole. instead of dealing with the weight of the 36 gallons. they tend to go every 100,000-150,000
if it was me I would check out the fuel pump relay first and then I would check the fuse for the sending unit and also here is a number of a place that sells only GM parts Schram auto and truck parts 1-800-292-1032
