Cylinder 1 and 7 misfiring. WHY?
fuel too lean in bank 1. WHY?
I have replaced all of the spark plugs and coil packs and i am still having a misfire on 1 and 7 and fuel to lean. Whats my next step? could it be fuel injector, catalytic converters or what??
The cylinder misfires cause lean or rich
fuel trim
A constant lean on fuel trim, is a rich condition
driven lean by pcm to correct
If two cylinder are affected & are together or maybe
not ,then smoke the intake for vacuum leaks
A leaking injector is obviously a rich senerio
Converter only works with the O2 Sesnors to report
back the rich or lean to pcm
You need to get rid of the misfires before any fuel control
returns to normal
so how can i get rid of the misfires then? i have changed spark plugs and coil packs and drove till light came on again i also had 2 vacuum leaks but i fixed those and its good just have a rough idle and when you are sitting in front seats it feels like you are in a diesel from the jumping? what is my next option to find the misfire?
Professional Help with the proper tools Maybe you have mechanical valve train issues
i under stand but you cant think of anthing like maybe fuel injectors or , headers bad or cats bad???
We discussed leaking injector & rich fuel conditions & converters & what they do What do you want Testing has to take place to find & resolve any vehicle problems
i just want to fix the misfires and wondered if there was something i can do because i dont have the money to take to a dealership and pay for it
You never go to a dealer They charge too much You don't have to knowledge or test equip to resolve at home
so where do i take it too???
Local repair shop Odd question Have you not got a regular shop you use several times a year
no because i am in the military and dont trust shops around here
I don't trust dealers & finding a good shop that can fix anything is tough Were do you fellow buddies go

SOURCE: Check engine light comes on. p0171 and p0351 codes found
From Lusty Kid:
I know the economy is bad, but change all of the plugs. Check your PCV Valve hose, 150 rottens them out allowing air to be sucked in, thus all kinds of codes.
Depending on mileage. Dismount the EGR valve and clean passages. If you are really good dismount the throtle position sensor body and clean out passages with Choke Cleaner., dismount where the EGR valves connects to the engine, clean out passages. Also check the hose thats behind this mounting to ensure is not clogged. If clogged clean it out. If not replace it. Is about 1.5 ft. long, connects to the PCV Valve Hose.
When is the last time you change your harness. Can't remember??? Replace it. Good Luck
SOURCE: engine code p0307 cylinder #7 misfire
It could be carbon deposits on valve seats keeping valves from totally closing. You can try getting you a can of motorcraft PM3 top end engine cleaner and get engine up to operating temp then remove one of the small vacuum lines from the intake and draw the contents of the can slowly into the engine. After you have drawn in the contents shut engine off and let it soak for about 45 minutes then crank it back up and let it run until it clears. Now it will smoke like a forrest fire while you are doing this so don't be alarmed, just tell the neighbors you are spraying for mosqitos. This may cure the problem. If not you may be looking at a valve job.
This can be verified with a compression test if this is what is causing it.
SOURCE: MISFIRING ON CYLINDER 1 VW POLO 1.4 3CYLINDER
I have changed a few cylinder heads under warranty for this type of problem. The exhaust valve guides wear, this causes the exhaust valve to seat badly, giving low compression. if one cylinder compresion reading is more than about 50 psi below the others, then this warrants head removal. It is quite a job, due to the fact that the camshft id chain driven. If you are up for it then once the head is removed, poor liquid into the exhaust ports and see if it leaks out through any of the exhaust valves.
SOURCE: Took my car to have check engine light checked. It
In modern cars so much can go wrong to indicate an issue and a computer in the car can get confused as to what is really occurring. In most cars a misfire indicates either an incorrect firing order, shorted wires, bad plugs, or bad coil. Since you have replaced the wires and plugs we can rule those out. Im also assuming after the second engine code you pulled #2 plug and made sure it wasnt fouled with oil, was gapped correctly, and reinserted. To produce a sufficient spark for combustion the alternator sends power to a "Coil" which is in reality a storage point that then sends an amplified electrical current down the spark plug wire to the cylinder to fire the plug. If the car is truly misfiring you will notice a rough idle, fluctuating RPM's, and lack of acceleration. If you are experiencing any of these I would look at replacing the coil. If you arent experiencing any of these I would have the code cleared again and complete one drive cycle 100 miles and then have codes read again. If you still get a Misfire error some other causes known to occur with Rio's are fuel filter issues, gas caps, and fuel injector issues. Although rare, these can cause issues with the cars fuel delivery and emissions which can confuse the sensor in the ECU. I would try injector cleaner, replace the fuel filter, and gas cap . If funds are an issue then based on symptoms I would start with injector cleaner first $3, Filter $12, Gas cap $12, Coil $48 to $200+
