Im wondering if someone could shed some light on a possible problem with my car. When I start the engine or when idling it sounds fine.
But, when I pull off a strange sounds occurs which I can only describe as similar to the sound of blowing into a desk fan. Almost like a helicopter. It is also there in second gear but very faint and hardly audible at all. Third, fourth and fifth are fine.
As the car increases in speed the noise gets faster too.
Also, when idling and pushing in the clutch there is a similar noise half way through depression of the pedal.
It has only started making these sounds since it snowed about 2 weeks ago. Not sure if that would be relative but will mention that anyway just in case.
Hope with this information someone can identify a possible problem and any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Andy.

Very simple.... I had this problem and it drove me Crazy.... your gearbox engine mount is gone. When you look at it it will look fine but when under load it moves. creating the knocking noise..
Use a crowbar (Very carefully) to move the engine to check.

IF IT ONLY THUMPS WHEN YOUR CAR IS MOVING YOU COULD BE WRITE. PAY ATTENTION TO THE THUMPING CLOSLEY, DO YOU FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL, IF SO THE PROBLEM IS IN THE FRONT END. IF YOU FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE DRIVERS SEAT THE PROBLEM IS IH THE REAR END. YES THE VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT STEERING AND THE DRIVERS SEAT IS A WAY TO TELL WHERE THE PROBLEM IS

No good news on this one I think
Your whining sound problem is the Layshaft bearings in the gearbox are
badly worn. It also seems that the baulk rings are damaged on 5th gear.

Sounds like you might have a bad computer, or some wires shorted out. I would check for any power wires, showing ground.
