SOURCE: OIL IN ANTIFREEZE
if this is dexcool antifreeze and it has never been flushed after time it will gum up and turn brown if this is the case have your coolant system power flushed I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS WORK FOR MANY YEARS AND HAVE YET TO SEE A 3.8 MOTOR HAVE A CRACKED BLOCK!
SOURCE: Oil leaking into coolant -- not head gasket
check the transmission condenser or oil cooler built in the radiator..
SOURCE: Coolant overflowing out of expansion tank no boil no steam
As you've stated driving around town it's fine, and everything is working well. For the symptoms, there are 2 possible causes:
1. Your cooling fans are not working.
2. Your radiator needs to be replaced.
I'm sure you can determine which it is, and I wish you luck on your repair.

Could be just the OIL COOLER. VW IS CORRECT.
If the oil cooloer fails internely you will have a mix of coolant and oil. In the engine and in the Radiator,
