2004 mercury sable no tension in gas pedal

Feels like throttle cable is broken or disconnected, but can't find anything online. Does this car have a traditional throttle cable? Car will still drive slowly if foot is taken off brake and everything else seems normal, but the accelerator is flat on the floor with no tension.

Hi
it sounds like the throttle linkage has broken on your inlet manifold which the throttle cable connects to if that's OK then the issue is the cable has come off the back of your pedal
glad to help

Check your transmission fluid. You could be alittle low. Check it hot in Park while running.

SOURCE: AWD acting like all wheels are locked up

The clutch in the transfer case is burnt up and fused together therefor binding the powertrain. If you continue to operate it like this it will destroy the front differential and possibly the rear differential. It was most likely cause by the tires not having equal circumference either due to a mismatch of tires (different brands although the same size is indicated on the side wall will have different measurements,I have seen BF Goodrich tires have a different size because speed rating was different although the model was the same) or lack of tire rotation during the life of the tires.. If the measurements are not with in 1/4 inch around the center of the tread this will cause your concern. Tires should always be replaced at all 4 corners on all wheel drive vehicles.

SOURCE: 2002 Mercury Sable-shakes with acceleration

You describe this as an acceleration problem however, if the car does throw a check engine light it should be recorded in system memory so it can be pulled by scanning with and OBDII scanner. It sounds as if the car is being starved for fuel on acceleration. Check the fuel lines for kinks as well as check the fuel pressure. The problem could be a faulty fuel pump that has yet to completely die.

First, disconnect neg battery cable 10 minutes and reattach to clear codes.
Lean condition means it is not getting same fuel as other side of engine.
Since you had it scanned before, try Autozone to see if new results.
You might try a TPS switch which regulates spark and fuel feed. At lower speeds EGR starts to open-you should have code for a problem there.

2002 ford taurus gas pedal goes to the floor and getting no acceleration. the pedal itself is loose and won't retract into the up position.

The spring or wire that connects your pedal to the throttle body may broken or damaged. Check under your hood and look at the throttle body (it's the carburetor looking thing). There should be a steel wire connected to it coming from the back of the engine bay. It should connect on the side where you'll see a few springs. If nothing looks broken there, turn the part of the throttle body connected to the spring and wire. If it revs up when you move it, then the cable could be broken somewhere between there and the gas pedal.

Alternatively, the linkage on the pedal could have been disconnected some how. Check behind and above the gas pedal to see if eveything is connected properly.

Car starts but the engine does not reve when I

either broken accelerator cable or broken throttle position sensor, open the bonnet and see if the gas pedal actually turns the throttle, if the throttle is turning then the fault is in the TPS - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-AVENSIS-CAMRY-RAV-4-THROTTLE-POSITION-SENSOR-GEN_W0QQitemZ260532390938QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=504ea2ab1260a0aad422e2a2ffc2aa49#ht_879wt_940
That should fix it, simple to fit. one out one in + reattach the connector.
