My 1983 mustang is doing the same thing. Only gets spark when u turn key on or off. My brother is a mechanic and told me theres a control module or sensor in the distributor. Try buying a new one that should help. There expensive but i replaced everything also and cant find the problem.

SOURCE: 89 ford probe, 2.2 turbo, no spark.

Check out your "fuel cut-off switch" located by the windshield washer tank behind the driver's side wheel-well panel in the trunk. It's a small box with a push-button at the top. If the button is "soft" when you push it, that's probably your problem. Replace the unit by removing the washer fluid tank first. The box simply plugs in. Probably about $ 100. I replaced three in my Probe. They rot out, and the car simple dies.

i would think it may be a distributor cap or wires as they are the only things that when wet are a problem like you mention or the coil may have carbon tracking try looking at coil and cap at night when dark and see if you see any arcing if you do there is your problem

If there is spark out of one coil than its not the crank sensor.

does this have one coil assembly with 6 posts or are there three individual coils?

If it has three individual coils try swapping the coil that works with one that doesn't. If the one that wasn't working now works and the one that was working doesn't than you have a bad module. If the coil that was working still works and the coil that doesn't work still doesn't work than you have a bad coil.

If it has one coil with 6 posts I would replace the coil and the module. It is not uncommon for the coils to go bad and take out the module at the same time.

I would visually check for spark at the plugs, to make sure spark is getting to the plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse.
