I cant open the door from the inside only the outside, I have seen the posts to revove the latch but how do you get it out? Disconnect the 3 rods then the 3 screws? There is a bar in the way, will it fit around it or should I take off the outside handle also?
Take off inside door panel then interior handle then latch at end of door in the jamb it will come right out remove all screws that hold these items in no matter how many there are
I have the panel off, so are you saying to just disconnect the inside handle with all the rods attached? I would still have to disconnect the rod to the outside handle wouldn't I?? along with the 3 screws of course
and thanks for your help
yes when door panel is off and you have detached interior handle there is a plastic clip on handle where the rods r manipulate w hand plastic will break if not gentle after interior handel is off then when you take screws off latch rods and all will come out of door and if door wont latch just hold up on handle and use finger to reset latch mechanism

linkage on inside of door has come undone. take off inside door panel and you will find a small rod that goes to the lock mechanism where the door closes opposite the hinges. follow the handle to the door lock.the nylon bushing may have broken.they are cheap to purchase at auto part stores.

Here's a trick I learned from a local body shop where I live.
Get a sawzall and cut the post that the latch hooks to.
This will open the door for you. Then repair whatever is required in the door, and replace the post on the inside of the body is cheaper than damaging anything else in the door.
Good luck on this repair.

Think there may be a bushing missing and that's also how you make adjustments as well. Below are some pictures I had from my service manual. It wasn't much but I hope it helps.

There isn't a book or manual detailed enough to show you the inner workings of this lock mechanism. You will more than likely end up damaging the door panel and the mechanism to get the door open. You could go to a junk yard and get a used latch, see how it works, and then jimmy yours open. Or you could buy a new one and do the same thing. Either way the door panel has to come off with the door open and the latch will probably be damaged. There is a little spring that comes off or breaks in the latch and causes exactly what you are describing. There could be other issues as well but it definately needs the latch replaced.
