1998 Nissan 200sx dashboard doesn't illuminate

When I turn on the headlights - the headlights go on - but dashboard doesn't illuminate and the radio light goes from being on (when the lights are out) to turning off (when the lights are on). Also, the gear shift light in between front seats does not illuminate either. What is going on? Fuse problem?

Headlights don't work why?

Test the headlight switch as follows.
  • Move your car to a dark area, such as waiting until night or moving to a dark garage, to test your headlight switch.
  • 2Turn on your car, so you can see your dashboard lights. Note whether some of your dashboard lights fail to illuminate.

    • 3
  • Turn on your car's headlights. Note whether your car's headlights illuminate.
  • 4Press the high beam lever to activate your high beams. Note whether your high beams activate.
  • 5Put your car in "Park." Move to the back of the car. Note whether your parking lights are illuminated.
  • 6View any remaining driving lights, such as lights above the license plate. Note whether these lights come on.
If more than one set of lights does not activate when you turn on the lights, you may need to replace your headlight switch. If only one set of lights does not turn on, try replacing the lightbulbs in that set and then retesting your car. If the lights still do not illuminate, you may need to replace your headlight switch.

I have to turn my key many times for my nissan 200sx to start. is this the ignition or the starter

At a guess, either the connection at the battery or starter. Try turning the headlights on , then hit the starter. If the lights go out, battery terminal. Stay on, starter connection. Lovely little car!

The dashboard lights and the parking lights are not working.

The problem is very likely the headlight switch (specifically the middle contact in the row of 5 contacts within the switch), but check the fuse first.

My nissan 200 sx headlight wont work have canged

Check fuses, Get a tester and see if you actually get power to the lights. If you do get power and the lights don't work anyway then it is likely the light switch located on the steering column( has blinker, and light switch together). common Nissan problem.
