I have a v40 1.9 turbo diesel - serviced regularly bu main dealer. I have a totally random issue of the engine not starting, it just turns over and does not fire, for most of the time it starts first time and I have noticed no other issues. I have had the egr valve replaced on advice from the dealer but this has not cured the problem.

You may want to look at your Catalytic / O2 sensor(s) Watch this video to learn more about how the O2 sensor works and what is required of the O2 sensor for it to work in the vehicle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvKZ2GDYEz4 Note: The vehicle in this vehicle does not compare to your own since the sensors on your vehicle may not be under your hood but may be on your header exhaust or you could have one on the lower exhaust pipe and one on the upper exhaust / manifold.

SOURCE: 2002 eclipse check engine light

Either a bad plug, dirty plug, bad plug wire, not quite broken wire, bad or going bad coil, dirty injector. I would reset it first and make sure it comes back. If it does I would check the aforementioned items first.

SOURCE: service engine light is on,

P0420 is a catalytic converter inefficiency code for bank 1. It has nothing to do with the EGR valve. It usually means that the catalytic converter is no longer functioning as intended and usually needs to be replaced in order to solve the problem.

What year, make, model, and engine size and what is the current mileage? Emissions warranties are much longer than vehicle warranties.

SOURCE: engine will turn over but

like any other engine... you check for the big "2": 1...fuel and 2...spark. and if you are good there, then run a compression test on your cylinders. are you getting fuel up to the engine? crack a fuel line run the key and see if you have fuel pressure building up at the fuel rail. if you have fuel, pull a spark plug out, ground it out against valve cover and have someone crank it over while you watch for a spark. let me know how that works out for you!

Vdj76r turbo diesel v8 wagon. Why does it have an occasional engine rattle when cold?

A brief engine rattle occurs when starting the car because the oil has not reached all of the engine, do not apply accelerator when starting in the morning. On diesel engines, if the oil is not changed regularly, the oil gets thick and loses it's viscosity.

Tucson diesel power loss, not turning over, then does. Starts off well when it does start, then looses power. Up to date service history????? Help URGENTLY please

this could be a number of things .do you service your car on a regular basis ? is the car a high miler ? .sounds like a turbo problem .or engine management unit problem ..you will need to take it to an authorised dealer {if still in warranty}.and if so they should sort it for you free ..if not then dealer or good garage ..it doesn't sound like a DIY job ..if the car has done many miles the a little smoke in ;;;normal ;; on a diesel .but if the miles are low the you may have an expensive problem ..if its your turbo then concider a refurbish one as a new one witl cost around 600 pounds !

My 2001 chevy diesel truck is very hard to start below 35 degrees

check the glow plugs usually nd external check would indicate power to the plug but in your case i would suggest you to pull atleast a couple of plugs and makes sure that they are getting hot you will find that the plugs are not working replace the glow plugs and the engine will have no problem in starting adn if you live in a cold region make sure that our electric corde is plugged in all night since the diesels need to be warm to operate necause they strictly work on heat from the engine and they do not have spark plugs to ignite the fuel.
