Replaced trans, engine, PCM and bcm, now starter diabled- theft flashes on service ...1995 Bonneville car turns over but wont fire an security light is flashing car ...
This is related to GM's VATS security system. It treats sudden loss of power as an attempt to steal the car. To reset the system, do the following: courtesy of ***** Master ASE Technician
Use your key fob (if equipped) or key to unlock the doors.
Turn the key to the start position and release it
Leave key in the ON position for 10 minutes.(the security light should go out at this time
Turn the key to the OFF position for 10 seconds
Repeat this process 2 more times. At the conclusion, your security light should be out and you should be able to start the car.
Hello: Make sure the battery cables are clean No corrosion, and tight. If the security light is not flashing when you try to start it, the have a helper hold the ignition switch in the start position and you go under the car and hit the starter (not to hard) near the end that goes into the engine, If it starts then you need a starter. If the security light flashes while trying to start you have a pass key problem
actually a pretty easy fix. The pass key computer lost its programming. Put the key in and leave it on with the security light flashing. Just turn off all your accessories and make sure battery is pretty good charge. Anyway after you leave the key on for ten minutes the security light will come on steady so turn key off and right back on and start car. If security light still starts blinking and car stalls then do it again. It will usually work the first time but can take a few times to get it right.
If the starter is turning the engine, try re-setting the security system (leave key on till light stops blinking.) If the starter does not turn, you may have some success in re-setting system, if not you need to check battery voltage and voltages in starter system till you find the problem...can be something as simple as a bad connection at the battery. If you need help with further testing, just ask.
you might try turning the key all the way back to reset the system or if ur steering wheel is locked hold it all the way to one direction while starting it... thats the way ive fixed that problem in other cars but if that dont work then im clueless
When my 1994 LaSabre had a problem recognizing the chip in the key (due to the contacts in the lock not working), I managed to bypass the system by locating the two wires (clear tube with two smaller wires in it exiting the steerin column, unlike any other wiring), cutting the cable, and soldering a resistor across the two wires that go to the hidden module thet in turn controlls the starter and sends a signal to the engine computer. Use a resistor of the same resistamce value as in one of the keys for the car (measure resistors with a digital meter). There are a dozen or so values used. You loose the extra protection of the chip, but the fix is low cost. ' +
