I recently purchased a 2004 Lincoln Aviator. It came with one key fob, which worked, and I ordered a second one online, which, after programmed, also worked for about a month. Then the one I bought stopped working. I changed the battery, and it still didn't work, so I tried the one that came with the car, and it also no longer worked. Any idea why this may be???
Any ford fob can be programed to work in any ford-lincoln-mercury product. Get in the vehicle, turn the key on and off 8 times leave in run position After 8th on position (don'start). The locks will activate. Then hold down lock or unlock on the fob. Turn ignition off, press fob buttons. It should now work. To program 2 fobs you must do the same but you must press the lock or unlock buttons at exactly the same time. You can't program them separately or one will work.
They need to be reset by the factory

Hi, Check the actuator in the doors, it appears that is non-operational and needs to be replaced. Also remove drivers door controls, clean all contacts with electrical parts wash ,let dry put back together if one or more of your problems is solved then that is where your problem is .Clean again in more detail or replace individual switches ,if the first clean showed no improvement then you have a short. Check wires between door and door frame for pinched or frayed move them around as you try the window and door locks.
Please accept the solution if it's helpful. Do get back to us for any further query.

Open the right/rear door. Pull the rubber weatherstrip back from the door opening. Fold the right/rear seatback down into a locked position, in order to facilitate access to the right/rear trim panel. Carefully, pry the right/rear upper trim panel housing the right/rear seat belt height adjuster. Now carefully pry back the lower trim panel taking care now to break it, exposing the vehicle security module with three connectors plugged into it, coloured green, blue, and grey. Look on the label that has the part number 4L2T-15K602-EB. There are FIVE numbers to the right of that number. Those five numbers are your keyless entry keypad code. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your replies. Aparajitas' answer seems the most relevant, I think, although too involved for me to do myself from the sounds of it. If it was just one fob, then I'd just buy another, but where they both stopped working the same time, I have to believe the problem lies in the car, and not the fobs. I guess I'll see what my mechanic says. Any other easy suggestions a not to mechanically inclined girl could try herself would be most appreciated!!! :)
