If the fuse blew for the fuel gauge, it would keep ALL of your gauges from working, It sounds like your fuel gauge sending unit.

Can a blown fuse cause the gas gauge to stop working?

It has something called a 'hot fuel module', but no idea what that is.

According to this it is a know issue and the gauge has a reset procedure.

How do you reset the fuel gauge on a Chevy Suburban?

Press and hold the "Trip/Odo" button. Turn the ignition switch on and hold the "Trip/Odo" switch for about two seconds. Then, release the "Trip/Odo" button, press it again (do this three or four times), and finally hold it for about four to five seconds until the leveling information shows on the Odometer.Jun. 19, 2021

I have a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis Ls with a fuel gauge that does not work (gauge may be reversed)??? help please.

The fuel level indicating system is a magnetic type system, which consists of the sending unit located in the fuel tank, an anti-slosh module located on the back of the instrument cluster, and a fuel gauge located in the instrument cluster. The sending unit changes resistance according to the level of fuel in the fuel tank, which varies the current flow through the gauge. The pointer position varies proportionately to the current flow. In this system, the sending unit resistance is low (22 ohms) when the fuel level is low and high( 145 ohms) when the fuel level is high. The pointer of the magnetic gauge remains in position when the ignition is turned to the Off position. On some models, an anti-slosh module is used to dampen out fluctuating fuel signals from the sender. Some vehicles are equipped with a low fuel warning indicator. The anti-slosh module will also actuate the low fuel indicator when the fuel level in the tank reaches 1/16 to 1/8 full.

Do your other gauges/warning indicators work properly with the ignition on? If not, check for power at the fuse panel/fuses.

If they do then partially remove your cluster with connector still installed and check for voltage at cluster connector and gauge. Check continuity of cluster and gauge for ground.

Sometimes the anti-slosh module (if installed) goes bad in the Grand Marquis but not likely.

Sender troubleshooting:
  1. Perform test with resistors as follows:
    1. Disconnect wiring connector at sender unit, then connect resistor between gauge lead and a suitable ground.
    2. Turn ignition switch to On position.
    3. With 145 ohm resistor, the gauge pointer should contact the Full mark.
    4. With 22 ohm resistor, the gauge pointer should contact the Empty mark.
  1. Perform test with fuel sender of known quality as follows:
    1. Turn ignition to Off position.
    2. Disconnect wiring connector from sender and connect it to test sender.
    3. Move float rod away from fuel filter against Full stop position. Wait approximately 30 seconds, then turn ignition switch to On position. The gauge should read on or above the Full mark.
    4. Move float rod toward fuel filter against Empty stop position. Turn ignition switch to Off position. Wait approximately 30 seconds, then turn ignition switch to On position. The gauge should read on or below the Empty mark. If gauge works properly replace sender, which involves dropping fuel tank.

Wondering if theres a fuse for the gas gauge in the econoline 150, or what could make the gas gauge only work part of the time

Hi!

There is a fuse for the GAUGES, but if it was blown, nothing will work. If your Gas Gauge is acting erraticaly, the problem is most likely the Fuel Level Sending Unit, part of the Fuel Pump, unless you want to remove and replace the fuel pump, your problem will be there til then.

Note, the failure of the Sending Unit does not mean there is something wrong with the fuel pump.

Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING

Check for a blown fuse. If fuses are fine you may want to check if you have a fuel level transmitter arm some were installed on the fuel pump and others were installed in the trunk. Test the electrical connections and make sure the connections at the gauge are tight and there is no corrosion. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi I have the same problems with the gas gaugedoes not function properly after I fill up full gas tank but it still show empty the yellow light is on.

Could be the float level in tank is disconected, or fuel gauge fuse is blown, or gauge itself is malfunctioned.

Air conditioner, fuel gauge, and temp gauge all stopped working at the same time

Three possibilities;
All related to blown fuses,

1- Fuse blown in the engine compartment LH.
2- Fuse blown in the cabin forward LH below the dashboard (below your legs left hand).
3- Fuse blown in the harness (wire bundles) below the dashboard very easy to reach with your hands “just look underneath steering wheel ".

U said " The air conditioner blows, but the air is not cold.
" Yes only the fan working which might receiving power independent all from those other mentioned things.
If all fuses OK. Then look for broken wires.

Regards;
MAR
