SOURCE: oil pressure on a 2004 5.3 liter silverado at idle is around 20

The pressure to be most concerned with is the reading in gear at idle with engine warmed up...Low end really should not be below 20. If pressure wanders, change the sending unit and check actual pressure with a mechanical gauge if necessary. The age and quality of your oil, as well as temperature all play a part in pressure, as well as internal wear from time & miles of use. If pressure changes with rpm, that is normal. 40psi is good while driving.
need more info just ask.

SOURCE: how to replace oil pressure switch on 1988 Chevy

Hi my name is Tom and I am here to help.

aaah!! the wonderful chevy 350. Probably the best engine ever made. It has had a track record few other engines can match.

Enough of old school. Unless they have moved the sensor in the last 30 years, you should find the sensor below the head 1/2 way to the oil pan.

Remove the electrical connection on the top and using the proper open ended wrench unscrew the sensor. Replace with new sensor and reattached the wire and you are home free.

If I forgot something or I can be of further help feel free to call or email me. Either way, please rank my advice so I can become a better helper in the future.

Chevy 2005 4x4 silverado low oil pressure replaced oil sending unit and the cluster 137000miles no noise from engine

By the time you hear noise from the engine it will be too late for that engine. You may need an oil pump replacement. Have a mechanic check the oil pressure. It's cheaper than replacing the engine.

Chevy 2005 silverado low oil pressure replaced oil sending unit and the cluster no noise from engine

Put a gage in the sending unit hole and see if the oil pump is weak, that is the best way to tell if the engine pump is ok.

My 2005 Chevy 1500HD when cold there is no oil pressure accoring to the gauge. But after a few minutes of running and then a restart of the engine the oil pressure is bake to normal.

most likely the problem is the oil pressure sending unit or the oil passage to the sending unit is partially plugged, that is unlikely, I would replace the sending unit 1st.
