Amplifier hook up

Trying to hook up an amplifier to a stock 2004 dodge neon. And just need a diagram or just someone who knows how. Also we bought a product from scosche that hooks up your speakers and converts them into the RCA red and white wires for the amp.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

As you have planned, the "product from scosche" would convert the speaker outputs to line level suitable for the Line level input of the amplifier. The RCA (red & white) would provide the connections. Of interest would be the following wires of the Neon:

  • Pink/Light Blue - always on B+12 (connected directly to the battery)
  • Red/White - IGN switch controlled ACC +12
  • Black - GROUND
  • Dark Green - left front +
  • Brown/Red - left front -
  • Violet - right front +
  • Dark Blue/Red - right front -
  • Brown/Yellow - left rear +
  • Brown/Light Blue - left rear -
  • Dark Blue/White - right rear +
  • Dark Blue/Orange - right rear -
You need to decide which speaker pair you would want to tap/convert to RCA type, front or rear.

Incidentally, the stock Neon stereo does not have a trigger wire to activate the external amplifier. This being so, a separate switched + 12 must be wired to trigger the external amp. This is separate from the always on B+12 of the amp.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Can u hook up a audio amplifier to a stock deck in a 2005 dodge Durango limited edition 5.7 ltr engine if u can? were do I go for a diagram? Or a manual or video

You need to look at the back of the stock deck to see if it has pre-amp outputs. That would be RCA jacks. If it does, then the RCA jacks would plug into the power amp Input using RCA cables.

In order to hook up an after market amplifier to a stock stereo your going to have to use a line output converter to adapt it to RCA cables to hook up to your amplifier.
