BMW 323i overheated, pulled over, cooled engine. Now won't start.

Is there some kind of safety that needs to be reset or something? It's acting like the battery is dead. I tried jumping it but the tachometers just blink rapidly when I turn the key. HELP!!!

The battery is very weak, u will need to replace it , u should carry out a drop test or check the voltage at the terminals, the check the voltage at the wires to the alternator and starter, if the vlotage is below 12 volts, u need a new battery, if there is a difference between the terminals and the starter/ alternator, then there is a problen with the wiring, possibllity a bad earth, bad or loose connection or a short circuit

Hi Anonymous, can you get a radiator pressure test while engine running.

I Suspect exhaust from valves in engine building up pressure in cooling system. (blown head gasket or warped head)

OP is getting the engine pressure tested.

Good job!

1999 bmw 323i wouldn't jumpstart

No danger involved, just useless. If ONE vehicle won't jump it, there's something drastically wrong with the engine. A charging system will only charge a max of 14 volts when charging a low or dead battery. Over that will hurt something. If you have two vehicles connected to your low battery, there's still only 14 volts going out from them and into yours. There is no reason why one jump vehicle won't charge and start your vehicle. Unless of course the jumped battery is really bad or has a bad/dirty connection. So clean your terminals before a jump. You may not need a jump.

My 1999 Kia Sportage overheated. I pulled over to let it cool. Now it won't start. Is there a reset switch? Where is it located

There is no reset switches on cars. Have you let is cool sufficiantly? You may have a blown head gasket and this caused the overheating and if it is bad then you can be sucking too much air in the engine to get it started or worse water could be getting in. Have this checked out,

Loud rattle from engine and overheating

I wonder why the overheating caused you to change the engine instead of checking with the cooling system. Some time back my 323i overheated and coolant expansion tank burst open, but that probably due to ignoring the coolant level low light for a couple of days. I replaced the coolant expansion tank, thermostat and few hoses connected with the tank and it worked fine for me.
Try to check you coolant level - may be you should have replaced your water pump and not the engine.
