My oil pressure has dropped to 5 psi when idel and when steping on the gas. do i need to have my oil pumpchanged? if so what parts exactly do i need to purchase (its cheaper for me to but them then have the mechanic install). i just had my oil changed about 1000 miles ago.
Take out the oil sender and install a old fashion oil pressure gauge to see how much oil pressure is really there if it reads good then its a bad gauge or bad oil sending unit. i would hate to hear you replaced a oil pump because of a bad sending unit
how do i do that?
also if it reads bad then that means i need a new pump?
if the manual gauge reads low then yes, not to many other thing that cause that
so what do i ask for at the auto parts shop? also how do i take out the oil sender? sorry im new to this

It may be a coincidence but try replacing the oil pressure-sending unit if it does not change try changing back to the original oil
SOURCE: drop in oil pressure
The oil sending unit could be bad, or the pressure relief valve in the oil pump is malfunctioning.

OOO not good sounds like some of the head gasket got stuck somewhere, or the gauge or sender is bad or got knocked around when repairing the head gasket. I would check that first. If that checks out will need to drop the pan to see if something got stuck in the pickup tube, might as well change the pump while you are there. Or worst case some thing wrong with gasket job impeading oil flow back to bottom of the engine. Was the oil and filter changed ?if so pull out filter and see if an chunks are stuck in it now. And change oil and filter again. Sorry that was out of order I had a long day

i just replaced the battery about a week ago. also i had taken it to a mechanic and was told my pump was going out. its just hard to believe that because when i had taken it to them the gauge was reading normal
