Unfortunately, replacing a sensor only fixes the problem about half the time. The code means the computer is not getting a signal from the sensor, not that the sensor has failed.
The problem could be in the wiring, or the part that the sensor gets the signal from.

SOURCE: High RPM After Crank Shaft Sensor Replaced

Dear Mike: Nissan has a Technical service bulletin out on problems with high idle.
Reference # NTB05-067 This procedure unfortunately, is one which will take a skilled professional with the proper equipment.
The Nissan Dealer has a diagnostic tool called a "CONSULT-11"
and shops like mine that spend the money on the equipment and software AND TRAINING>>>> can more efficiently address the problem. Even if the shop has a higher labor rate, it may be less expensive to solve the problem if they know what they are doing.
I often get calls from people wanting to know how much my shop charges per hour for diagnostics? I try to get across to them that the hourly rate doesn't always guarantee that they will get a less expensive repair. Then I give them an example: The shop ABC Auto repair down the street charges $10.00 an hour for diagnostics and Shop XYZ charges $100. for diagnostics. Shop ABC has kids who have difficulty figuring out where the hood latch is let alone how to solve the problem. It takes them 10 hours to eventually solve the problem which relates to $100.00. Shop XYZ assigns the car to a seasoned tech who knows the product and has the problem solved in 1/2 hour. Ever though shop XYZ is 10 times more expensive on their diagnostic rate, they were 50% cheaper on their repair! (SORRY TO WANDER OFF THE PATH )
In any case, this is one situation that I feel is best left to a seasoned pro who will take the time to check the technical service bulletins which the shop you had it at should have researched from the start. Had they done that, they could have told you that there were quite a few TSB's out on your car pertaining to performance and safety issues including voluntary recalls. We always check TSB's and if there is a recall & we advise the customer of it. I could take advantage of the customer and make the money on the repair, but would rather gain the trust, confidence and loyalty of that customer. Not to mention the word of mouth it brings!
I hope I have helped you some. If not, let me know a little more detail on the symptoms: Does it surge, while driving does it do it under all conditions or only at operating temp? You get the picture.

SOURCE: I recently replace the crank shift sensor, but

switch on your car but don't start it, let it stay in that position for a few minutes. after start your car, if starts without problems then your problem is your fuel pump. but if problem is still there then it could be your fuel filter or timing of your car.

In the kit there are two sensor that look identical. The one for the crankshaft has a white paint mark on it near the bolt hole. Make sure that it is in the right location.

I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra that has recently been shutting off as I'm driving or sitting at a light. The codes from Auto Zone say that there's a problem with an Oxygen Sensor, but I've had...

I would look at what the codes actually say,not what the salesman tries to sell,if the codes are a lean, code then the fuel filter ,and or the fuel pump could be the problem. If it is a rich code, then,it is possible,a mass air flow or obstruction in the air intake duct could be the problem. So many possible causes. But start there, and try also a good fuel treatment ,like Lucas fuel treatment, along with what ever you find wrong.

Hello: Go to Auto Zone, Advance Auto or O'Reilly auto parts and they will get the code(s) for you and they probably will not charge you.

My 2005 sentra 1.8 check engine light on starts drives for a couple miles and just dies and wont restart come back in a hour or so and starts and does same thing changed them cam sensor fine for 3 days...

  • If you have a check engine light then go to Auto Zone and get the code read for free or go to a mechanic and have the code read for a fee. This is the only way to know what is effecting the car. Once you get the code you post it here and I will see that a comment was made and I will return and tell you what is wrong and how to fix it.
  • Now if you replaced the Cam Position Sensor and you did not have the engine light code cleared afterward then this can still effect the car. Go have the code cleared and if it comes on again have it read and tell me the code and I will further assist you. There is no way to know what is wrong without the CEL code/codes.
