There are two ways your car controls its idle
the throttle position sensor and the idle air control.
if the idle is rough or wanders get the idle air control checked and cleaned up. its the most common poor idle fix

SOURCE: 2001 SUBARU OUTBACK, MARKER LIGHTS STAY ON WITH

The first thing I would check is on top of the steering column is a flip switch. Please flip switch. That is put there so you may have the marker lights on in case of emergency. Hope this helps and have a great day.

After reconnecting battery on a subaru outback car idles too low

If the alterntor has to work hard this could bring down you idle. and if the voltage regulator gets to hot and the "up the idle" signal does not reach the pcm then this could happen. But I'm 90% sure it's a bad grounding strap/cable cause this happend to me to. check the one to the trans. and the one to the body. and make sure they're clean with no rust or paint.

The ABS,Brake Light,Battery light go on and off sporadically while driving.Does this indicate an Alternator failure or a sensor/computer problem?

yes it's most likely a alternator problem, usually the internal diode bridge breaks causing all lights you mentioned to come on,if this happens at a idle open the hood and remove green connector on alt.if lights go out you've found the problem

Idle malfunction

You need to replace your idle air controller (IAC). IAC basically opens and closes the throttle at idle so it stays at constants RPM.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.
